BIG W
Review of Woolworth by donf18

Advantages: Vast range of goods
Disadvantages: Not exactly on the High street

Well as I recall in the good old days there were not many shops of the same size as WOOLIES. Then pehaps about 15 years ago they seemed to have drifted out of the limelight a bit. But I'm glad to say that I reckon they are making a big comeback especially with there new larger stores appropriately named BIG W. The BIG W nearest to me is huge and the range of products on offer is vast. The prices are excellent and there is always a very good deal ...
...fangled mood light things for ages but they were almost impossible to get and way out of our price range. So recently I took a trip to BIG W and voila £18.99 got me a set of three nice sized rubbery plastic balls that produce a nice pastel colour change and are very relaxing. The store is laid out well and you could spend a fair amount of time just browsing because of it's size, there are quite a few about now check out www.BIGW.co.uk for one near ... Read review

Cough up time at KaDeWe
Review of KaDeWe by nickjj78

Advantages: Everything you need in one place
Disadvantages: Try not to get lost!

KaDeWe (full name of Kaufhof des Westens but called KaDeWe by everyone!) is Germany's equivalent of the UK store Harrods, except that it is even bigger than Harrods and offers seven floors of shopping, shopping and yes more shopping… The store celebrates its 100th anniversary in 2007 and you can expect some wonderful things to be happening during the time with lots of party celebrations being planned even as we speak… What does it sell? KaDeWe ...
...Where is it? KaDeWe is located on the Tauentziehn Strasse in Berlin-Schoneberg and if travelling by U (Unter) Bahn then get off at Wittenbergplatz. Sie using lines U1, U2 und U3. By bus lines 343, M19, M29 und M46 all stop outside the store and any taxi driver will get you here! Nearby you will also find lots of smaller stores that are great to browse and potter around and the area also offers a wide range of exciting cafes and restaurants to tempt ... Read review

The domed Dom
Review of Berliner Dom by duskmaiden

Advantages: beautiful;, fascinating, reasonable, the coffins
Disadvantages: chrage for toilet and church, museum and website only in German

...the Brandenburg Gate to the Berliner Dom and beyond. It is easy to get to the Berlinerr Dom. A number of buses go past it and stop at ether the opera house or the Lustgartwens (the pleasure gardens). It is located conveniently in between Frreidrich Strasse and Hackeschermarkt S Bahn stations. You can also get the tram to Hackeschermarkt if you are coming from the former east Berlin. Once you arrive at the steps of the Berliner Dom you can not fail ...
...and buy a ticket. The Berliner Dom like Saint Paul's Cathedral in London does haver a compulsory charge for sight seeing. Like Saint Paul's they have found the donations are not enough to run the cathedral. It costs 5 euros (about £3.50) for adults, 3 euros for concessions and it is free for under 14s. It is a reasonable price to see a fascinating building and is better value for money than the £10 charge for St Paul's s Cathedral. You go through ... Read review

Hit the shops in Berlin with Karstadt
Review of Karstadt by nickjj78

Advantages: Great range of all items
Disadvantages: Sadly only in Germnay, not UK!!!

What is it? Kardstadt is one of the main department store chains throughout Germany and you will find branches in most of the major German cities. There are 14 branches dotted throughout Berlin! Kardstadt tends to be bigger than most of the department stores we have in the UK and stocks a massive variety if items from clothing to sports goods, books, household good and many branches even offer a travel agency. When can we go? The Berlin Kardstadt ...
...night. Because of the size of most of the stores they tend never to feel very crowded but they are always pretty quiet first thing in the morning and after 7pm. German cities are still very much active well into the evening and shopping is great weekday family past time here. When walking past the Kardstadt shops, it's always worthwhile checking out their lovely window displays as they always display the newest merchandise and good deals in the windows! ... Read review

The Gate of Division and Unification
Review of Brandenburger Tor by medgenie

Advantages: A must-go place in Berlin, good for those interested in history of Germany
Disadvantages: no

Close to the Reichstag is the Brandenburg gate, which has become the most important landmark of Berlin. Remember the video that was shown before the match begins for World Cup 2006? It was featured in there. It is not just a scene for Berlin itself, personally I think it is the best monument that represents Germany. It used to be the scene of milliary processions and parades. When the Wall went up, it was left in a no-man's land. It is also one of ...
...Therefore, it has its place in history in Germany as the gate where the West and the East side of the city came together again and symbolizes both the division and unification of Germany. Personally I would love to come back to visit again- a reminder of the importance of looking back at our history. On the road close to the gate, you can also see a distinctive marking of a line which shows you where the wall used to seat-a really amazing scene. ... Read review
