Berlin Experience

What an amazing city!

Advantages: Beautiful city, so much to see and do, excellent transport
Disadvantages: None!

...boyfriend and I went to Berlin in April after I bought him a weekend away there for his birthday. We flew from Glasgow to Berlin with Easyjet which cost £150 for return flights for both of us, which I thought was quite cheap. Once we got there, we stayed at Melia Berlin which cost about £300 for both us for 2 nights, which obviously isn't that cheap, but I wanted to make it special. ...all, when we arrived at Berlin Schoenefeld airport, we were given a pass \t the tourist information bit that allowed us to use all forms of transport as much as we liked for a selected period of time. I think it was about 10/15 euros each for 3 days, which was great as we used it all the time. Berlin has at least 5 modes of transport; S-Bahn, U-Bahn, Tram, Bus and Ferry. Berlin's public transport: superb!

Advantages: Cheap, efficient and reliable
Disadvantages: None at all

...show the ticket, which makes getting on and off the various vehicles much quicker than in this country. Occasionally someone will come around and check them, so have it handy. Buses on the major routes are sometimes crowded, but they are clean and run frequently. The S-Bahn is more reliable, but there aren't that many of these. For longer journeys use the U-Bahn network, which criss-crosses the city much as the London system does but is much cleaner! ...

Review of Getting around in Berlin

So characteristic!

Advantages: So much character, culture, history, really has an impact on you.
Disadvantages: None

Berlin has got to be one of my favourite cities. It's fantastic, I cannot rave about it enough. I went last October for 5 days/4 nights as part of an A2 History trip. I loved it. We stayed in a cheap, very basic and plain hostel with food so minimal and crap we never ate there, but it added to the experience. Most of our days was spent exploring the city and seeing the sights, and the majority of the nights we were mostly left to our own devices. ...

There is a wealth of museums...the best is Checkpoint Charlie for eye-opening history about the Cold War including colour photographs of a man being shot for attempting to cross over, really bringing home how recent it all was. Review of Berlin in general

Berlin-one of the most interesting city in Europe

Advantages: Lots of history
Disadvantages: No

Berlin! Berlin!

Advantages: Germany's capital and most interesting city
Disadvantages: a bit too large, distances too long
