... I normally work at St Paul's Cathedral and got the chance to work in the Berlinerr Dom (Berlin Cathedral) for a week as an English tour guide. I was living right on top of my work place, as I was staying in a guest apartment in the cathedral's bell tower. I fell in love with Berlin and ... Read review

Advantages: beautiful;, fascinating, reasonable, the coffins Disadvantages: chrage for toilet and church, museum and website only in German
...the Brandenburg Gate to the Berliner Dom and beyond. It is easy to get to the Berlinerr Dom. A number of buses go past it and stop at ether the opera house or the Lustgartwens (the pleasure gardens). It is located conveniently in between Frreidrich Strasse and Hackeschermarkt S Bahn stations. You can also get the tram to Hackeschermarkt if you are coming from the former east Berlin.
Once you arrive at the steps of the Berliner Dom you can not fail ... ...and buy a ticket. The Berliner Dom like Saint Paul's Cathedral in London does haver a compulsory charge for sight seeing. Like Saint Paul's they have found the donations are not enough to run the cathedral. It costs 5 euros (about £3.50) for adults, 3 euros for concessions and it is free for under 14s. It is a reasonable price to see a fascinating building and is better value for money than the £10 charge for St Paul's s Cathedral. You go through ...

Advantages: WOW it´s BIG and GOLDEN!! Disadvantages: found nothing to be honest
Visiting Berlin - the Dome is a MUST even if you usually don´t go into churches.
It´s amazingly big and has got seperate parts that together form a cross. The inside is completely of gold and marble and with lots of fabulous decorations.
The most striking thing ist the "Kuppel", the dome-part on top. You can climb up on it and have both a look around the city and into the inside of the cathedral!
Wear good shoes because the steps are very steep ... ...sarcophages of many German Kings, it´s a place of quietness, but not very sad. The sarcophages are rather pieces of art than giving you the impression of being in a cemetery.
Best ist: try to get a concert in that dome.
The acoustics is fabulous, so you´ll enjoy it thouroughly.
Another tip:
go up the Tower on the Alexanderplatz, then you´ve got a splendid view over the city and especially of the top of the DOME!
AND...there´s a lift....so you ...

Berliner Dom Review ofBerliner Domby

Advantages: Good value attraction Disadvantages: Steps up to top of dome!
...summer of 1999, and the Berliner Dom proved to be one of the most striking attractions in the city. From the exterior, the cathedral is a large and impressive building, situated close to the central area of what was once Communist East Berlin. The interior was nothing short of breathtaking, almost indescribably grandiose and spectacular, with the giant dome rising a seemingly enormous distance above one's head. For those prepared for a trek, a climb ...
