Visiting Berlin - the Dome is a MUST even if you usually don´t go into churches.
It´s amazingly big and has got seperate parts that together form a cross. The inside is completely of gold and marble and with lots of fabulous decorations.
The most striking thing ist the "Kuppel", the dome-part on top. You can climb up on it and have both a look around the city and into the inside of the cathedral! Wear good shoes because the steps are very steep and uneaven.
In the crypt you can see the sarcophages of many German Kings, it´s a place of quietness, but not very sad. The sarcophages are rather pieces of art than giving you the impression of being in a cemetery.
Best ist: try to get a concert in that dome. The acoustics is fabulous, so you´ll enjoy it thouroughly.
Another tip: go up the Tower on the Alexanderplatz, then you´ve got a splendid view over the city and especially of the top of the DOME!
AND...there´s a lift....so you don´t have to climb up :-)
