We have recently come back from Beruwela (Sri Lanka). We flew from Heathrow on Sri Lankan Air Lines. The flight it self was nearly 10 hours but made as comftable as possible. On each seat was TV screen, the various channels included 3 film channels, comedy channel and also a channel where you could map out the journey. The meal service was first class. Food was Sri Lankan food and you had a choice of meals so suitable for any taste. Compimentry drinks included.
Downside when arriving at the airport lookout for the porters wearing orange BIBS, if they help with baggage they expect english money. My experience included one porter taking to meeting point and another trying to take bags to buspick up point and another trying to load on the bus.
The air conditioned minibus journey to Beruwela took approx 4 hours. The driver was great though he stopped off so we could get a drink somewhere.
We stayed in Eden Resort in Beruwela, although the hotel was excellent there wasn't much to do apart from go to the beach or market.
At night you couldn't go out of the hotel, as it was in middle of nowhere.
When going to Beruwela beach, the touts choose which tourist they are going to hound and everytime you set foot on the beach the tout is there. To start with you feel sorry for them because of Tusami, after a few days it becomes irrating.
Boat trips from Beruwela are good, we went up Bentota river that cost us approx £3 each, you do need to haggle to get prices down.
If you are a smoker the touts sell 200 fags for approx £10 but they are a cheap quality.
Eden resort hotel is a very friendly and clean hotel with something different on every single day.
Another experience for Sri Lanka is the Tut tut, this is the local transport, if you go anywhere it has to be on a Tut Tut. One thing to remember is to agree your price before going anywhere.
Finally before i finish i had my wedding at the Eden Resort, i would certainly recommend this. The co-ordinators sort everything out for you.
This cost us altgother for the 2 of us approx £2200. The package includes: Flight Transfer to airport 14 nights all inclusive Wedding Package:
Would certainly recommend if you want a holiday where you can just stay based at the hotel. Ideal for honeymooners or older couples.

£2200 for two weeks and the full wedding is really good value. x

We found the hassling in Sri Lanka much less than in India, or Istanbul for example. Maybe it's got worse since the tsunami. Duncan

I can't remember whether we went to this resort or not when we were there. I got jellyfished in the sea though somewhere! Susie x
