Advantages: Lots to see, lots to learn, khorovats Disadvantages: Unfriendly people, horrendous bus stations
Planet had some suggestions, however, so we changed some money and took the underground to the centre. With only one line and ten stops the Yerevan underground is a dream. Trains are frequent and while it is not the cleanest in the world, there are certainly worse ways to travel.
It was a sunny June day and the trees were in full blossom; it was early and people were still making their way to work while waiters were putting tables out in front of cafes. The whole scene was quite Parisian. We wanted to stop but other matters were more pressing.
Yerevan does have lots of hotels but little for the budget traveler. All the main chains are represented and prices are on a par with any other capital city. Thankfully, some enterprising people rent rooms in their city centre apartments to tourists; these are mainly in excellent locations in ...

Advantages: Close to tram stop and airport bus stop. Disadvantages: Can get quite busy with people checking in & out.
I have stayed at this hotel twice in the last few years. Its quite a way outside the main Temple-Bar area but is right by the tram stops. As the trams run very regularily getting about is easy.
The hotel is very close to Houston rail station. If you fly into Dublin airport one of the many buses outside the airport will take you to the station and the hotel is about a 3 minute walk away.
The rooms are sparce and basic but suitable. The breakfast is very good and you certainly wont want for a large lunch. This is a big fry-up with all the trimmings.
The cost of the hotel is middle of the road but reasonable for what you get. Yes its reasonably basic inside but you get what you pay for.
It does get quite busy and checking in and out can take up a little time. There is the facility to leave luggage there if you arrive ...
Advantages: 3* Hotel in a 5* location Disadvantages: Noisy rooms.
This Best Western hotel is one of about six Best Western Hotels all in this old part of Istanbul known as Sultanahmet.
It really is in a very convenient location and the LOCATION is its greatest asset. It is a three star hotel in an area containing five star holiday attractions.
The hotel advertises its roof terrace as the sort of restaurant under the stars of everyone's dreams. I thought it was jaded and thus overrated with a distant view of the sea which was hardly on the waterfront.
The rooms are OK. I had a de-luxe room which had been reduced on-line from an advertised price of Euros 134 to Euros 75.The TV had CNN and BBC World and the bed was very comfortable. I found the decor a bit drab. A buffet breakfast on the roof was fine but the service was non-existent. Didn't really matter though - the stuff was all there, I ...
