Advantages: wonderful relaxing place to visit Disadvantages: still has a few tacky souvenir shops
...this is set away from the old town area and can easily be avoided.
I can recommend the Monterey Inn where we stayed. This was situated at the far end of the old town and near the waterfront. The rooms are furnished with Spanish touches and because the motel is U-shaped most of the rooms have a view over the bay. As with most American cities there were many excellent restaurants but we couldn’t fault The Columbia, again the Spanish influence was strong and I can recommend their paella – if you can finish it!
A short drive away was the Anastasia Recreation Area. This is a vast stretch of beaches, dunes and picnic areas. There was limited car parking but this wasn’t a problem as you simply drove your car onto the beach (which was deserted both times we visited).

...The Wern Fawr Inn is a warm and comfortable Inn based in the upper part of the Swansea Valley in the village of Ystalyfera. Will and Sandra Hopton the licencees have managed the Inn for some twenty years and have built a reputation for a warm and friendly welcome for regular customers and visitors alike. The Bryncelyn Brewery started in April of 1999 and is the only brewery in the area and producing a fine selection of ales in the best brewing tradition. Production is in demand and has trebled in the last six months or so owing to the demand of this quality beer. All the ales that are produced are named after the owners hero BUDDY HOLLY,with names such as OH BOY,RAVE ON and my own personal favorite BUDDY,S DELIGHT.If you are anywhere near SWANSEA please try to visit this unique inn/brewary....

...Travel Inns are the best cheap hotel chain in the country. There are approx. 250 of them around Britain including ones in prime spots such as central London, the middle of Leeds and seaside towns like Blackpool and Brighton. A large proportion of the Inns have been built in the last 10 years and as a result are still shiny and new. However even with the older Inns the quality is consistently good. They are always clean and modern. The layout of the Inns and the bedrooms is near enough the same anywhere you go even down to the pattern on the bed covers and make of television. All bedrooms have 2 very comfortable double beds, one is usually a bed settee, and cots can be provided for babies. There is an en-suite bathroom with bath and shower. The showers are absolutely brilliant, very powerful and an endless supply of hot water...
