We stayed to the Ashling Hotel 2years ago and it is not such a great hotel for Dublin. It was a cheap price for a room there, but unfortunately there were a few issues we had, the first was having arrived on the Friday afternoon discovering the water wasn't on!! (not really their fault I suppose) the manager informed us that it would be back on in an hour or so, so we unpacked and walked for what seemed like 1.5 miles to Temple Bar (travel agent told us it was close to the nightlife) for something to eat, found the excellent 'Fitzers Cafe' (which was strangely a restaurant!!) and enjoyed a meal there. taxi'ed it back to the hotel, still no water and were assured a plumber was looking at the problem, true to his word the water came back on 1/2 hour later, after showering and getting ready for the nightlife in Temple Bar, went down to the hotel bar and could not for love get served as the place was packed with people that weren't even residents!. The rooms were nice and big, en-suite bathroom/toilet, tea and coffee making equipment, (hidden in a drawer??!!) portable television, desk and chair etc. no decent view to speak of, but if you are on a real tight budget or if you are a group of guys on a 'stag do' then this may do for you. Personally I wouldn't stay there again because of the distance to Temple Bar from the hotel. by the way, the pub next door called 'Nancy Hands' is very good for food and guinness.
