Advantages: Close to tram stop and airport bus stop. Disadvantages: Can get quite busy with people checking in & out.
I have stayed at this hotel twice in the last few years. Its quite a way outside the main Temple-Bar area but is right by the tram stops. As the trams run very regularily getting about is easy.
The hotel is very close to Houston rail station. If you fly into Dublin airport one of the many buses outside the airport will take you to the station and the hotel is about a 3 minute walk away.
The rooms are sparce and basic but suitable. The breakfast is very good and you certainly wont want for a large lunch. This is a big fry-up with all the trimmings.
The cost of the hotel is middle of the road but reasonable for what you get. Yes its reasonably basic inside but you get what you pay for.
It does get quite busy and checking in and out can take up a little time. There is the facility to leave luggage there if you arrive ...
On the weekend the present Mr Tart and myself went to a ball in London. The original plan had been to stay on a friend's sofa but we decided that we wanted to make a proper weekend of it. After a donation from my aunt to 'make sure we had a good time' we decided to stay in a hotel. We had a budget of £100, so after a lot of Internet searching for a bargain I found the Paddington Court BestWestern Shaftesbury Hotel.
BOOKING:
I booked into the hotel through their website, www.shaftesburyhotel.co.uk. The hotel is one of a chain of Shaftesbuy BestWesternhotels. They have a few in Paddington and around the Hyde Park area and some others in central London. The website is laid out in a standard way, you can look at the various hotels individually or can do a search for the dates you want to stay. You can search just by dates ...
Advantages: beautiful hotel, given a room with a terrace Disadvantages: Out of season there isnt a huge amount to do
~~~~First Impressions~~~~
When driving up to the hotel you are immediately struck by how lovely this Edwardian building is. The building has been extended to include more bedrooms and a business/conference centre. And we were more then pleased when we seen it. From the driveway, we could see lovely rooms with balconies and we could see into the restaurant and a conservatory style coffee area.
Facing the hotel was a park which had a playground and pitch within it, a pleasant enough view. There was plenty of parking in the car park and parking was free during our stay.
The hotel reception was small but beautiful, very in-keeping with the Edwardian building it was housed in. We could see into the bar, which faces the reception, and at the end of the hall there was a set of stairs leading up to the rooms. At the top of the first ...
