My partner and I visited the hotel as a last weekend break for us without the children as I was 7 months pregnant at the time.
The hotel is situated in a fairly remote area i.e. not a town / villiage centre so driving would be a definate advantage.
We were able to visit most of the lakes from this location and spent most of our time driving to the surrounding coastal towns, villiages and lakes.

The staff were excellent and could not have done more for us. For example, the heating was not working one night and the weather was not brilliant so it got quite cold in the night. One member of staff arranged for us to have a small heater and a blanket, which did the trick. They also took a phone delivery for me with no problems.

The food was really lovely and there was an excellent choice for breakfast. Breakfast was served at a reasonable time in the morning (between 8 and 10) and there was a good selection of cereal, fruit and excellent cooked breakfasts including the usual full english with a choice of eggs, kippers, toast and jam etc.
The evening meal (which we paid extra for about £25 per head) Consisited of a selection of starters, mains and desert. Both our meals were absoultely amazing. The service was second to none and everything was clean and in a lovely setting. Perfectly fitting our reason for being there.

The rooms were decorated in a style fitting with the hotel and were clean, spacious and well - equipped. Our room was a double but there were other rooms with four poster beds and they were much bigger than ours. There was a kettle, tea coffee and biscuits, hairdryer, interestingly tuned tv (all the channels out of sinc) en suite bathroom with overhead shower including the normal basic supplies such as soap, shampoo etc. There was an extensive room service menu although we didn't use it as it was quite pricey. There were also services such as car washing and valeting, laundry etc. There was also a guide of places to visit in the area. The only bad thing about the room we were in was the toilet! - It had an inbuilt paper shredder (I assume so that the pipes don't get blocked) Which is great for initial novelty value, but unfortunate when I went for my many a nightly pee (being quite pregnant) It was so noisy that it woke my partner up. It also set itself off at random moments when I was having a lovely relaxing warm bath and couldn't move in case any water went down the overflow and made a horrible noise - therefore irritating me quite a lot. I didn't mention anything at the time, and I'm not sure if they are in all of the rooms, but it became bearable once we knew what set it off!

There were ground floor rooms available for the less mobile.

The grounds of the hotel were lovely and it would be an ideal location for a wedding. There were events on in the hotel every day and night of our stay and although we were in the room above, we were not disturbed at all. The staff remained polite and extra helpful although they were clearly busy.

We booked this hotel with superbreak and got an unbeatable deal for the May spring bank holiday weekend. We would say that the Ennerdale country house hotel is not the ritz, but for great value for money, lovely central surroundings great food and rooms it's certainly worth a look.
