There is a bar in the hotel but for more atmosphere the pub attached to the side of the hotel is very cosy and a great place rto meet other people. All drinks and meals in the pub can be charged to your hotel bill.
The downsides of the hotel are that there is a car park but if the hotel is busy this can be limited and parking in Grasmere can get expensive. The pool is very nice but the gym is very small with only a bike and a treadmill. The reastaurant could do with some updating but the breakfast was very nice (we only stayed B&B).
Overall, I would reccomend this hotel, it is friendly and comfortable and a good base to explore the lakes.
Advantages: Good location, central to village and the Lake District, nice staff Disadvantages: EXpensive for what it was, poor decor in rooms, bathroom terrible
My husband and I stayed at this hotel for my birthday June 09. Despite the fact that they advertised the fact that the hotel was being refurbished there was little eveidence of this.
The room was claen and last decorated in about 1985! The bathroom was tatty and the shower din't work very well. . The prices (£130 on weekend and £115 in the week )were extortionate for what we got and my daughter joined us on the weekend for one night in what they ... ...was tagged onto the room making the bedroom itself dark and cutting off the view. It cost an extra £30 per night and was still tatty. The dinner menu was very expensive (£25) and the food very ordinary but the adjoining pub - the Lamb Inn was very good.
On the positive side the staff were very nice. Poor value for money. ...
