Ahhh.... that brisk sea air, what better way to blow those dusty old cobwebs away.

Location

Nieuwvliet-bad is a small resort on the North sea coast of Zeeland in the extreme South-west of the Netherlands.
The hotel is situated in a quiet peaceful location only around 100m or so from the beach.

The hotel has a total of 35 rooms:
12 Standard rooms, 14 standard rooms with balcony, 5 salon rooms, 3 suites and a bridal suite.
There are 4 floors with an elevator and there are rooms which are suitable for the disabled.

The reception area was large and bright and decked out with sofas and occasional tables. The staff were friendly and efficient and all spoke English.
We had reserved the room and were checked into our room in minutes.

We had a standard room with a huge balcony with table and chairs. The room faced the sea but there was no view because this is reclaimed land and as it is below sea level there is a large dyke for protection which blocked our view of the sea.
We had twin beds which were a bit on the soft side for our taste but comfortable enough. There was a desk/dressing table and chairs and bedside cabinets which housed the clock FM/AM radio. There was also a large wardrobe.
The TV had cable with multi-language channels including several British channels and CNN, MTV etc.

The room was clean but was in need of decoration and new carpets. The room was also on the tight side - the balcony was almost as large - great in the summer, crap in the winter.
I believe the hotel had recently changed hands from Tulip Inns and was in the process of being modernised.
Work was in progress while we were there but wasn't too obtrusive.

The bathroom - with tub and shower - was completely tiled and was clean with ample shelf space. Toiletries were of the standard rather than luxury variety and there were ample towels and a hairdryer.
The floor seemed to be heated which was very pleasant.

Leading directly from the reception area was the very plush restaurant. We didn't dine here in the evening but it was very nice to take breakfast - an adequate cold buffet.
Also leading off from the reception area was a cosy bar and a sun-room.

Other facilities include a skittle and bowling alley, sauna, beauty-parlour, fitness room and swimming pool.

The beach obviously figures highly in attractions nearby and would be the primary reason to stay here. Golfing and horsback riding are popular and the Het Zwin nature reserve is close by.
Tennis courts, volleyball, boating and surfing are all available in the immediate vicinty.

There are attractive towns like Sluis and Aardburg within a few miles. I thought Sluis was very nice with some good shopping and many restaurants.

Knokke, Belgium's premier resort, is about 15 miles away and offers a massive range of attractions, including a casino.

Brugge and Ghent are 25 and 30 miles distant respectively.

Prices range from 56 euros to 110 euros per room in January, with higher rates of between 95 and 150 euros in the summer.
We paid 56 euros per night, good value for money.

Board and lodgings are free for us if we go to Holland. My sister in law lives there, oh and we get a translator thrown in. Pat.t x
