Advantages: lovely town, beautiful scenery, a lot of history and culture Disadvantages: sometimes crowded (mainly in August)
..., there is a famous festival in Salzburg (it became well-known and connected to the name of maesto Herbert von Karajan) which offers a series of excellent events (classical music concerts, opera, ballet, theater, including the famous open-air performance of 'Jedermann').
GENERAL INFORMATION
There is an international airport in Salzburg (SZG), and there are a few daily scheduled flights (Ryanair) from London; otherwise you best fly via Amsterdam, Zurich or Frankfurt. By car or train from Munich (100 km) or from Vienna (300 km) is another option.
There are many hotels in all pricing categories as well as many restaurants in and around Salzburg. Prices are much higher in August during the festival season, where it is often impossible to find a free room.

Advantages: beautiful scenery, superb transport system, lots of things to see Disadvantages: restaurants close quite early, not much veggie food
...My boyfriend Jamie and I have just got back from a 5 day trip to Salzburg in Austria. I bought Jamie the trip to Austria as a present for his last birthday. Here I am reviewing the city of Salzburg.
Getting there
I booked my flights with Ryanair through the website which I found fairly easy to use. Baring in mind I actually booked the tickets in July 2006 so that prices may have changed since then, but I paid £87.02 for both of us for return flight which I thought was very reasonable. We flew from London Stansted and the flight took an hour and forty minutes.
Accommodation
We stayed at Hotel Plainbrucke which is located about 15 minute drive from the airport and a ten minute bus journey from the main town. When I was looking to book a hotel online there were lots to choose from so I can't see anyone having a problem trying...

Advantages: In the sun, one of the most beautiful cities on earth... Disadvantages: ... but in the rain it's nowhere near as good...
...is not exactly value for money! Getting free access to the excellent public transport system is also terrific.
If you want to go to a concert, there are several available, including dinner concerts - but be prepared to pay around 50 Euros each for them. We went to one in a hotel, which was quite nice - but I thought it could have been better. They served an authentic menu including what was supposedly Mozart's favourite dessert - I have my doubts about that, but it was quite nice! Again, your hotel or rep will have details of the various concerts available, and there are some cheaper ones available at slightly odd times.
Salzburg is more expensive than most places I've been to in Austria, but even then it isn't as expensive as London or Paris. As far as food goes, there's a good mix of different types of restaurant, though surprisingly there doesn...
