I write, read and take photographs. I have been interested in Judo and other Martial Arts for the last 50 years and still run a Judo Club for Children. I am happily married (51 years) and have one married son.

On a visit to Malta, not having been there before, we wanted to make sure that we stayed at a good hotel. We chose the Best Western Hotel of Les Lapins. SAGA gave a very full description of this hotel and we decided to try it. Les LAPINS (at Ta'XbieX ((Say, tashbeesh)), as you will know, if you understand French, means "The Rabbits", which are very prolific and popular on the Maltese Islands and form a great part of the local culinary delights.
We opted for a balcony (slight supplement) overlooking the Marina which is situated just behind Valetta in one of the creeks. It is on the western side of the Valetta promontory and only a walk away from Sliema, one of the Islands resorts, only a short ferry ride across the bay from Valetta. If you go there, visit Valetta first before trying the Ferry as the climb from the Ferry in Valetta is up a long, one-in-ten, Hill - not funny in the heat. The Hotel is international, air conditioned in all the rooms. Buffet Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner in one Restaurant and a la Carte in another. There are bars on the ground floor and the Pentouse (7th floor) and there are also swimming pools on these two floors. The food is excellent, the staff all speak English and cannot do enough for you. I cannot remember when I last had that sort of service outside the Hong KongHilton. Expensive you might ask? - not a bit of it. When we stayed in Malta the Maltese Lire was very strong and you could say that this made everything more costly but even then, a round of drinks for four people was costing about £2.50 (May 2001). Laundry was a little costly, although, strangely enough, ironing could be done for you by the room maids at any time for FREE! Best tip - take a case full of ironing on holiday!! The rooms all had television but, don't get exited, most of the stations were in European languages other than English, except BBC World News 24/7. Chance to brush up on a foreign language. The Marina was across a quiet road with a bus stop right outside the Hotel and the quaint or antiquated buses were along every 10 minutes or so. Very cheap and interesting way to travel, together with the local populace, but you have to have 15cents handy for the bus driver otherwise you get 85 one cent pieces in change for 1Lire with a lot of strange, non-understandable verbiage thrown in designed to make sure you not do it again. Cannot fault this Hotel, cannot speak for others I heard about on Malta. I will certainly try another Best Western
