Advantages: Nice Hotel, rooms cleanand located in centre of town, and cheap Disadvantages: Noisy, you can clearly hear bars and clubs till the small hours, food average
...We stayed at the Mar de Cortez, February 2006. The rooms could be described as outdated, no television, kettle etc but large enough and probably about the cheapest you can get in Cabo! There is a pool, but while we were there it wasn't heated and water very cold. Major advantage of Mar de Cortez is it is in the centre of town, about five minutes walk to the Marina, good restaurants and bars etc. This is also a downfall, if you have an early rise, to go fishing etc. you will be aware of the loud noises coming from the clubs and bars that stay open until the early hours of the morning. The Mar de Cortez has a bar in it, but it wasn't very inviting, a good place to meet up before heading out somewhere else, and meeting up at the end of the night for a night cap. We tended to eat out of the hotel most of the time and only had breakfast...

Advantages: Weather And location Disadvantages: The smell
...I traveled with my girlfriend to Cabo from Sept. 23-30 to celebrate my big 4-0. After doing alot of research, I decided on this baby and overall, I have no regrets. I toured some of the other hotels nearby and I knew I made the right decision. The only negative we encountered was the daily drilling near the pool (they were upgrading the tiles around the pool area). They started drilling each morning at 10am and continued for several hours - it was impossible to sit on our balcony or lay by the pool and relax. Fortunately, the sister hotel is right next door and we enjoyed laying by their quiet pool. I noticed that other nearby hotels were also doing maintenance on their properties so each hotel had their own little quirks. We talked to the manager about the annoying drilling and all he could say was "sorry". And it didn't seem sincere...

Advantages: 335 days of sunshine. Disadvantages: Very little options re. package holiday resorts
.... There is a selection of good fish restaurants by the marina which serve a myriad of seafood. An English/Spanish dictionary is useful for reading the menus. If in doubt, order mixed grilled fish - delicious!
La Isleta is a small fishing village to the east of SanJose. The beach is small, sandy and very quiet. The village has a few bars and a couple of restaurants.
Las Negras is another small fishing village with a good beach. Similar to La Isleta, but it has more of a traditional Spanish village feel about it, with little modern development.
Agua Amarga, between Las Negras and Carboneras, has, I am told, a very good beach with some facilities. I have not been there yet, so would welcome any feedback should you try it out.
