I recently had to travel to London for a training course and chose to drive up from Christchurch to the outskirts of London from where I could catch the tube in to my training centre each day.
I had previously stayed in Best Western hotels at various locations in Europe so I felt confident in choosing this hotel to stay in.
I also ascertained that the nearest tube station (Osterley, Picadilly line) was only a short 10-15 minute walk away and the journey time into Holborn (the station nearest to my training centre) was only 50 minutes and cost £6 for a day return.
I found the hotel very easily, having travelled up the M3 and then onto the M25 I took the exit for the M4 towards London leaving the M4 at junction 3 from where it was only 10 minutes along the A312/A4 to the hotel.
The hotel itself was pleasantly presented and the standard appeared above that normally expected of a 2* hotel or even a 3* hotel.
The reception staff were extremely polite and very helpful and check-in was quick and easy.
The normal rate for a single occupancy room here is £90 per night, however I had pre-booked through an Internet booking agency who offered reduced rates and I had managed to get my room rate reduced to only £35 which I thought was very reasonable.
The rooms are not within the main body of the hotel building as this hotel was formerly a motel so the rooms are contained within two three-storey blocks at the rear of the hotel,a very short well-lit walk from the hotel building. There are also several motel-style single-storey rooms available.
The room exceeded my expectations. It was spacious, well furnished, and included wardrobe, desk/dressing table, trouser press, tea/coffee making facilities, telephone, and television with all terrestial channels plus a few Sky channels and radio.
The en-suite bathroom had a full size bath with overbath shower, heated towel rail, WC and wash basin with ample room around it for toiletries. Complimentary soap and shower gel/shampoo was in abundent supply.
On my first evening at the hotel I decided to eat in the restaurant (although I could have eaten in the bar which offered a good selection of bar meals)
Again the staff were very polite and attentive. There was a choice of a fixed price menu or 'a la carte' - I chose the fixed price menu which offered a single course for £10.95, 2-courses for £13.95 or 3-courses for £15-95. This compared favourably with the full menu which although not excessively expensive would have cost a minimum of £20 for three courses.
The cost of drinks (I drink Guinness) was again not excessive at perhaps 30-40p above usual pub prices.
I enjoyed a good sleep that night and awoke refreshed for my journey into London. I do not eat much for breakfast so I did not sample the breakfast menu but given the standard of the food in the restaurant the previous evening I am confident that it would be satisfactory at the very least.
My journey into London was not the trial I expected it to be, the walk to the tube station was enjoyable and refreshing, I was able to purchase a smoothie and fruit bar for my breakfast and my morning paper to read on the train. I arrived at my training centre feeling ready for work. The return journey was equally OK and the walk from the tube station at Osterley to the hotel was welcome to take the air and walk out the stresses of the day.
My meal in the restaurant on the second evening was of the same high standard as the previous evening.
I stayed at the hotel for two nights in all and I was very pleased with all aspects of the stay.
I did book into the hotel again the following month as I had another course to attend and I am pleased to report that everything was exactly as it had been on first stay so I am more than happy to recommend this hotel.
