Durango is a town in Southwestern Colorado, best known as the starting point for the Durango and Silverton narrow gauge railroad. It is also a good base for activity holidays including skiing and white water rafting. We visited as part of a trip around Utah, Colorado and Wyoming in September 2007. The Best Western motel is at the opposite end of town to the railroad, on "motel row". Our reservation through ebookers worked perfectly, unusually we didn't pay until we checked out,

Our room was huge, with two king sized beds, there was a big mirror on the wall, a deep pile carpet and all the furniture was dark wood. All very nice! There was a big television with too many channels to count, we had a radio alarm clock, tuned in and set to the correct time, and a phone with a notepad next to it.

There was a table and two dining chairs in the window, looking out to the swimming pool. The room, like almost all motel rooms in the US had an air-conditioning/heater unit. A the far end of the room, screened off was an area with a fridge, microwave, coffee maker, twin handbasins, hanging space, iron and ironing board. Beyond this was a bathroom, with a bath and shower above. Plentiful towels were provided, as well as shampoo, lotion, make up remover, soaps and a shower cap. The kitchen area had tea, coffee and decaff to go in the coffee machine, paper cups and paper towels. We were given a complimentary corkscrew by reception when we accidently bought wine with a cork rather than screw-top!

Breakfast is provided in the reception area. The was fresh coffee with a range of flavoured creamers, apple or orange juice, cereals, a range of breads and a toaster, tined peaches and bagels. My favourite though was the waffle maker with pots of batter to pour in - fresh waffle with maple syrup for breakfast!! Yum yum!! Breakfast was available from 6am so there is no problem with eating before leaving for a ride on the railroad.

The dome area houses a pool and hot-tub. We didn't try this out, though we were seriously tempted, jet lag meant getting sleep was more important. Extra towels were provided inside the dome and it seems to be open all day.

We would definitely go back to this hotel on future visits to the Durango area.
