...In 1802, Napoleon Bonaparte was invited to stay at the 'Hotel du Commerce', Bruges, during an official visit to the city. He accepted the invitation. A superb triumphal staircase and a sequence of beautiful, 'Bonaparte halls' were especially commissioned within the then 200 year-old Hotel to mark the occasion. However, in what must surely have been a heartbreaking and insulting blow to all concerned, Napoleon cut short his official visit, and in the end he didn't even stay in Bruges at all.
Today, nestled behind the winding and cobbled St.Jakobstraat, a quiet side street in Bruges' town centre, stands the old 'Hotel du Commerce', or to draw upon it its new and rather clumsy, official title, the BestWesternPremierHotel Navarra Brugge. It is a charming position for a hotel, just a brief stroll from Bruges' beautiful Market...

Advantages: Location, price Disadvantages: No air conditioning when requested
...I stayed at the BestWesternPremier Eiffel Park in early May of this year for six nights. My mother and I booked into a twin room via the BestWestern website as it had the cheapest rates, around 120 euros a night for non-refundable internet rates (there were several listed rates). I chose the hotel based on positive reviews from a few review sites, location and price being my primary needs.

(There are dozens...

Advantages: Independently Owned & operated Good Quality Disadvantages: Very Few
...BestWesternHotels are among the world’s largest hotel brands but is actually somewhat unusual. This international hotel chain is made-up of individually owned and operated hotels and inns around the globe. However, reputedly it is not easy to qualify for membership of BestWestern – prospective members must meet some very exacting standards and each hotel in UK is independently inspected on an annual basis by the AA.
Globally there are around 4,000 hotels in the group whilst there are several hundred in the UK. Some are bustling city centres hotels, others are nicely converted Elizabethan lodges and some are plush Georgian style country manor houses.
Among BestWesternhotels in London are the Delmere Hotel, Hyde Park, the John Howard Hotel, Kensington, the Mornington Hotel, Lancester Gate, Raglan Hall...
