My family has been staying at this hotel since the 1940’s across three generations and it is a hotel that I will remember from my childhood. I recently returned to stay here for a family funeral and write this review based on my stay in June 2009.

The Stade Court stands proudly on the seafront at Hythe and has brilliant views over the English Channel. The art deco architecture makes a bold statement both outside and inside the hotel and more recently under the new owners has been brought into the 21st century with a modernisation program.

My father booked the rooms over the Internet on their website at a cost of £70 B&B for a standard room.

Arrival
The property is easy to find, situated on the sea front at Hythe and is signposted from the town centre. There is ample on street parking as well as the guest car park at the rear of the hotel, free for hotel guests. Having been here many times I found it very easily, if you hadn’t been here before it would be simple.

Check-In

Checking in was straightforward. The hotel had prepared registration cards already and after the obligatory credit card swipe off I went to the room. I was also asked for newspaper choices and wake up calls etc.

The room
My room was situated on the first floor and I had been given a corner room. The room was quite large with a double bed, desk, seating area and it also had a sunroom, which looked out over the water. Brilliant to sit down in and appreciate the views. There was also the complimentary tea tray and an LCD TV with satellite channels etc.

The bathroom was traditional with many old features such as the taps and the toilet, however they were very clean and in fairness were in keeping with the style of the hotel. Ample toiletries were also provided.

The room was very clean and the bed was extremely comfortable. There was no air conditioning, however portable fan’s could be provided if you requested.

Overall it was a very standard hotel room that gave me a good nights sleep!

Bar
& Restaurant
The hotel has a small bar on the ground floor. The atmosphere wasn’t too bad and the staff were very helpful. Drinks were reasonably priced as hotel bars go and we had a pleasant evening.

There is also an Indian restaurant however we did not get the chance to experience this. It was certainly busy so I would presume it does a good trade.

Facilities
The hotel had conference facilities but I did not look into this aspect of the hotel.

Breakfast

The breakfast room is situated on the ground floor and is separate from the main restaurant. There was a small continental selection and then a full English buffet. There was plenty of toast and cereal and a good supply of tea and coffee to get you going! The quality was good and there was nothing to complain about.

Checkout
Check out was a breeze. Paid by card and off we went. No hassle, no overcharging. Simple!

Summary
My family has been staying at this hotel now for over seventy years and it is easy to understand why. It delivers every time. It is not as fancy as some of the other hotels in Hythe but for a 3* property it certainly doesn’t disappoint. If you want a good alternative to a carbon copy ibis or Travelodge then look at the Stade Court. It will do it’s best to meet your needs whilst you experience the times gone by.
