...What a beautiful place - as a strict county bloke I've never liked cities but the one exception has to be Sydney. The huge harbour is home to ships and sails of all shapes and sizes, with Ferries plying their way across the harbour. Centrepoint tower has to be the best place to start an exploration of the city, from the magnificent veiwing decks the tourist can see over Botany Bay one way and over to the Blue Mountains the other. A monorail links the city with close outlying areas such as Darling Harbour where restaurants and bars luine the waterside. For the backpacker there is no end of backpacker motels and YHA's with plenty of pubs scattered around them! Outside of the city, the Blue Mountains is a great place to visit.... Read review

...are attending the fireworks you need to get a good spot early on in the day. We had to be at Farm Cove around 5pm to get a good view. Eating Out in Sydney is cheap compared to Irish prices. There are some great restaurants such as City Extra at Circular Quays, open 24 hours and items from a cup of coffee to a full meal with desserts. Venice Beach on Kellet St., Darlinghurst combines Asian cuisine with Australian and Mike the chef will tantalize your tastebuds with his various menu items. Transport in Sydney is very efficient and very cheap also. Busses, trains and ferries combine and you can usually get from Kings Cross to North Sydney in about 20-25 minutes - it can take a bit more in rush hour but if you know your train times you can do your best to avoid these rushes. ...Sydney is a great city to visit, with lots to see and do that will interest all the family. Children will love the ferries that operate in Sydney harbour that make 'getting there' part of the fun of a good day out. The best views of the famous Sydney Harbour Bridge can be seen from the ferry from double bay! The Opera House is an amazing sight, but we found it prety inaccessible with a buggy. nearby there is the Rocks which on Saturday and Sunday is home to a fantastic craft market where you can but all sorts of goodies at great prices. Eating out is cheap, by UK standards, and there are so many places to choose from - buy a copy of 'Cheap Eats' which lists pretty much every restaurant in Sydney worth going to (not just the cheap ones). we particularly enjoyed Doyle's Fish Restaurant at Watsons Bay, Limoncello in Double Bay...
