Received some email publicity about this hotel while looking for a night away for my wife's birthday. Managed to secure a great offer at a total of £130 DBB on a Saturday night. Hotel was very easy to find using the detailed directions on the Hotel's website. Surrounding countryside is very attractive and quiet. The narrow drive up to the hotel is very impressive and the view of the Waterton Park hotel, Walton Hall and the lake is spectacular. The footbridge across to Walton Hall is a really distinctive feature and must be great for wedding photos. Check in was friendly and efficient, and we were delighted to have been allocated a four poster room in Waterton Park. which was very large, with the bathroom being almost the same size. Only slight downside was the window which was very small vs the size of the room. Bed was very comfortable, and bathroom was clean, if very sparse, with no separate shower, for which there would have been plenty of room. Having settled in, we decided to go for a walk and found ourselves taking an unexpectedly long hike along some great trails, including part of the Pennine Trail, eventually arriving back to the hotel around the far side of the lake. The golf course and angling facilities look very good, but we chose to have a rest and get ready for dinner. We had booked a table in the restaurant and were given a very friendly greeting and shown to seats in the lounge while perusing the menus. We were given £30 pp allowance towards the a la carte menu, which did not quite cover the cost, but we were happy to pay the supplement, given the quality of the food. Service was paced just right, and many wines were available at £14.95 per bottle, which is very reasonable for the type of hotel. By this time, the wedding parties were starting to get rather lively, and there were also a number of other functions taking place. We were surprised that having 2 buildings, Walton Hall and Waterton Park, the management did not try to separate the weddings and functions from the other guests. One wedding party was in Walton Hall, but there was a function taking place on the floor below our bedroom in Waterton Park. There was frequent laughing and screaming, and for some reason a door was slammed every few minutes, the vibration from which could be felt in our bedroom. Eventually everything settled down and we got a good nights sleep in the comfortable bed. Breakfast was the usual cold and hot buffet, and was well organised, with pleasant service. Overall this was a great break, in surprisingly attractive countryside, but we would try to pick a "non-wedding" night if we came again.
