Bewley´s Hotel Newlands Cross, Dublin

I am visiting Dublin again for the fifth time in November & was looking at Ciao reviews. I'm very surprised that this hotel hasn't been rated yet as it is a little treasure. I should say at this point that I went there in 2001 with a 6 month old child & they catered for him very well, so no problems on the family side of things.

The only thing that is a drawback about this hotel is that it is a little way out of town. However, there is a bus service right outside if you are on a budget & wish to sample the (dubious) delights of Temple Bar of an evening & the taxis are not that expensive either should you wish to get there in better style.

Situated on the junction between the main ring motorway around Dublin & the Naas Road (Newlands Cross, hence the name funny enough hehe), it is a perfect base if you are hiring a car from Dublin airport & wish to have a look around the City or some of the more historical sights a few miles further out. It is extremely easy to find, although you will have to pay a small toll on the motorway from the airport for a new part of the road (one way only if I recall).

Rooms are pegged at 79Euros & that is a great price for a hotel as clean & luxurious at the price. It has a Holiday Inn feel about it at a Travel Inn price, which easily off-sets the extra expense you may have to pay to taxi it into Central Dublin.

The bar serves superb Guinness (doesn't EVERY establishment in Ireland?) & the restaurant is top quality, although I've only eaten there once as there are many other places I've always wanted to visit, so have never really stuck to the hotel itself.

The rooms are very good, & each time I have visited, I have had a very large sized room. However, I have been with friends whose room has been smaller, but never anything to worry about, all rooms seem to easily surpass anything an English fixed price hotel can muster.

This November I am staying in the North Star hotel in the Centre of Dublin, but will be paying a lot more per night for the privilege, but that's because I am taking a Lady I need to impress, if you see what I mean. Next time, hopefully, she will be hooked & I'll be taking her here, which is just as comfortable, but with the slight inconvenience of a cab ride rather than a walk to O'Connell Street.

If you choose one of the cheaper hotels in Dublin Centre, you will still probably pay more than you would by staying at Bewleys, even taking into account the cab fare from the airport & the cabs from the hotel to the Centre & back. AND you may find you have somewhere to stay that is less grand than this place. If you're driving, this hotel is to be recommended even more as there is ample free parking which you will find hard to find in Central Dublin 1 or 2.

You won't find Irish Nights or anything like that here, but for comfort, quality of service & value for money, it gets top marks.
