Advantages: Great sports, great shops, breathtaking views, boat ride to Evian, calm and relaxed atmosphere Disadvantages: Expensive trains, doesn't really cater for some food allergies such as coeliac
...As a keen traveller, Switzerland seemed a very appealing destination for myself but i didn't know how good it actually was until I arrived. I stayed a short drive from Lausanne which is located North of Lake Geneva (or Lac Leman as it is named by the Swiss). The nearest airport is Geneva, and Lausanne can easily be reached from here.
Lausanne is a very beautiful city with some of the most breathtaking views over the mountains that you will ever behold. The first thing that hit me as I walked into Lausanne's centre was the Olympic Museum. If you are interested in sports, Lausanne is therefore the place to go. This Olympic Museum holds some of the most interesting and impressive Olympic memoribilia in the world. It is also the home to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and a number of other sporting federations.

Advantages: Beautiful medieval city, relatively cheap, lots to do, excellent transport links Disadvantages: none
.... The rest of the interior is wonderfully ornate and impressive, with an atmosphere in keeping with its almost 800 years.
The Hotel de Ville by the Rue de Lausanne is also worth a look as it is a particularly stunning example of Renaissance architechure, with an impressive double staircase on its exterior. Advantages: Londoners perspective: beautiful, clean, orderly and different Disadvantages: Londoners perspective: Expensive (yes even for me!)and a little small and quiet
...of Lausanne and Montreux – with the beautiful Chateau de Chillon set on the lake – are lovely places to visit. Also a short drive away is the famous Mont Blanc and the beautiful French town of Annecy.
Shopping
The main shopping area is situated around the Rue de Rhone and Rue de la Croix d’Or. There are numerous department stores and clothes shops but you could probably buy most of the merchandise cheaper at home. The more expensive stores are definitely worth a look especially the watch and jewellery shops. And the one obvious thing you have to buy is Swiss chocolate, which is absolutely delicious!
Going Out
As mentioned earlier eating out is expensive but there are lots of fabulous restaurants across Geneva. The more traditional restaurants can be found in the old town or if you want pizza, burgers, Mexican etc head to near the station...
