A friend of mine first introduced me to The Bier Halle, it was supposed to be a bite to eat & a few ahemm shandy's before i made my way back to Middlesbrough on the train. The Bier Halle is in the heart of Glasgow City Centre, a 2 minute walk from Central Station on Gordon Street, its pretty well hidden but if you are looking for something special i am sure you will look hard to find it. Once you go in the door & down the darkened strairway you find yourself in a dimly lit basement, chunky wooden blocks & benches as your seating area & same goes for the tables. There is more normal tables for couples or a party of four but it doesnt really matter where you sit once you have sampled the food & drink.
This is a lager/bier drinkers paradise, Hogaarden, Staropramen & Tiger are a few of the draught biers on offer & then they have over 50 different bottled biers from all over the world, China, Thailand, Japan, Poland, even Scotland haha. I tend to stick to Hogaarden on draught & Peroni Grande Reserve out the bottle. What makes these biers even nicer is the glasses are chilled, a very enjoyable pint indeed. Now on to the food, if you are looking for one of the best pizza's this side of Europe then get yourself there. Each Pizza is round about the £10 mark, unless you go for the basic Margarita which is £7.50. But from Sunday til Thursday they do 2 for 1 on the pizza's, which is an absolute bargain in my eyes. They do the most tastiest, obscure toppings but every one goes so well. Probably the most far out is the Stornoway Black Pudding with Free Range Poached Egg, like i say, strange, but they come out the kitchen in abundance. I love the pepparoni with extra chilli but my favourite has to be the Parma, it consists of Mozzarella cheese, their own home made Tomato Sauce, Creamy Blue Cheese, Wild Rocket, topped with slices of Parma Ham & aged Balsamic, it is to die for. If pizza is not for you then they do pasta's, bier halle tapas style food, if you order a 2 pint mass or a jug of bier you get a german bratwurst hotdog, there really is a great choice.
The staff in the bier halle are very friendly & helpful, no need to queue at the bar its table service & there is always someone there to help you.
Every time i am in Glasgow i make it my mission to go here, usually just as i have arrived though, as my first experience in the bier halle ended up with me not making my train, well i couldnt leave all that choice of drink alone.
