Hi, I work in the Travel Industry, so thought that it would be nice to pass on my knowledge on certain places. I really do hope you find this review helpful. Please do leave a rating at the end of the review.
Ok, lets start.
**********LOCATION********** The Bilderberg Hotel Jan Luyken is very good for those who like a more cultural aspect. It is located near the museums and is in the South neighborhood in Amsterdam. This area is the heart of cultural Amsterdam, all the important museums are basically a stone's throw away. Opposite the hotel you will find the Rijks museum and the Van Gogh Museum and virtually on the doorstep are the famous P.C. Hooftstraat, the Vondelpark and the Leidseplein with its cosy cafés, trendy bars, theatres and cinemas. As if thats not enough only a few minutes' walk away are the Concertgebouw and the Van Baerlestraat. Also if this still isn't enough for you to do then the tram station is just around the corner from where you can easily access all major tourist attractions in town. TIP - If you are flying into Schiphol Airport, take the KLM shuttle-bus, it stops outside the Bilderberg Hotel Jan Luyken.
**********ACCOMMODATION************ This is not a huge hotel and is more a town house hotel, built in the late 19th-century architectural style. It only has 62 rooms in it although personally I prefer this size of a hotel as I find it more personal and friendly, but obviously this is only a personal preference. In the room you get air conditioning ( a major must in the summer), tea & coffee making facilities and a minibar (beware of using it as prices can be quite expensive). A little tip - bring your own drink in and place it in the mini bar to keep cool, this will save you serious money. You also get a TV, safe, wireless internet and there is 24 hour room service. Size was good, not the biggest in the world but also not a shoe box. I like the fact that there is a hairdryer in the bathroom as it saves you bringing your own. I do know that there are about 17 superior rooms which come with a sitting area and a large workplace with desk accessories. You also get an ironing board / iron, turn-down service and a CD player complete with CD collection. Also if thats not enough for you, they also have an à la carte service menu. Decor is very tasteful and the colours and prints give it a warm feeling which I love, as I hate the cold, impersonal feeling of some of the bigger and grander hotels.
************FACILITIES************ This hotel has a bar called the Wines & Bites in it. I must say it is pretty trendy, but is reasonably priced. The name is very good as it means - (Wines) for the large range and varied assortment of wines on offer, and (Bites) for the snacks, appetizers and a plat du jour you can get in the bar. Also there is a lovely patio bar, where you can relax with your wine and refreshments. I must say check out the Health Spa for a warm Turkish steam bath, FANTASTIC!! or have a Jacuzzi or a Massage. It also has a Solarium.
******************COST*********** Personally I think this hotel is not bad on the cost front. A double room midweek will set you back about 189 Euros per room per night. At the weekend it goes up (like everywhere else) to about 259 Euros. It is a 4* hotel, so I was not shocked by the cost.
***********OVERALL*********** Lovely 4* hotel, in a nice location. Easy to get to and from. Service is great and you are made to feel very welcome. In short, you'll find everything you could want nearby to make it an unforgettable stay in Amsterdam. SUPER
