I had a couple of weeks off recently and managed to get an excellent late deal to Mallorca.
We were going to fly from Birmingham airport, somewhere that I`d never flown from before but had decided that it might be a little bit easier than Manchester which I usual preferred.
We had to decide whether to leave our car at home and travel down by a local minibus company or to drive there and park the car at one of the many car-parks available around the airport . As we usually run late wherever we go, we decided to use our vehicle to get there. So began the hunt for a suitable secure car park!
I`ve used on- airport car parking before and paid through the nose for it. I`d also used of f-airport car parking, namely BCP at Manchester and was not duly impressed by them for a variety of reasons that I`ll not go into to here.
A simple search for airport car parking on the web brought up a whole load of possibilities to examine. The name of APH cropped up in the address of one of the sites. I`d not come across APH. before so jotted it down on the future reference. A very useful little sight of comparisons of the various choices available was found and lo and behold, APH featured on this table as one of the best choices! The fact that for 15 days they seem to be cheaper than anywhere else of course did not influence my decision at all.!
A link it took me straight through to a APH airport parking and their Web site at www.parkaph.co.uk provided me with all the information that I needed.
It`s child play to get an instant quote and then to get immediate confirmation of the booking with them . All you have to do is complete the boxes detailing airport and the departure date and time together with date and time back in the UK. Press the icon for instant quote and within seconds you have your price. 15 days at their Birmingham park was only £48.75 covering a period at the end of April and beginning of May . This compared very favourably against the rates offered at other parks around the airport which started at about £59 and went up to them over £80 !
Click on another icon to confirm. To pay for the booking my credit card was equally simple. Another page opened to confirm the booking details and also to give additional information on directions ,arrival procedure, transfers etc It recommended that you printed this page for future reference as it was needed to present on arrival at the car park. Almost immediately an e-mail to duplicate this confirmation was sent an received at your mail address that you gave them. Very efficient.
The day for our flight arrived. We set off for the airport and the directions given proved excellent. Within a couple of minutes of leaving the M42 we arrived at the park`s secure entrance. APH`s first impressions were excellent, a high perimeter fence, electronically locked gates, security cameras and an air of the professionalism. greeted us.
Check-in was accomplished and in minutes bags off- loaded from the car and onto an awaiting minibus . The keys handed over to the receptionist and who gave another receipt and instructions as to what to do upon your return, then within minutes we were negotiating the back roads to the airport and avoiding a very congested M 42. About 15 minutes later unloading at the airport easy peasy!
Instructions upon our return where to phone from the baggage area , using a free phone to request a transfer bus to be sent to us. After clearing the non-existent customs we waited about 10 minutes for the bus and about 15 minutes later we were climbing into our car and driving home.
I would seriously recommend APH to any one if all their other car-parks are like the Birmingham one. I was suitably impressed as it was far superior to a BCP Park that I`d used before at Manchester and far cheaper.
APH stands for "airport parking andhotels" and are available at most UK airports . In addition to car parking they also offer additional services including hotels, Valet parking , holiday insurance, car hire etc .Their main site details what there isavailable.
Next time that we are flying, APH. will be our first port of call .
Flights for a pound, how could I turn it down? Flying from Birmingham with Flybe to Milan Bergamo Airport was a new experience for me but the journey to BirminghamAirport is just over an hour from home and the parking is so close to the airport that you don't really need to get the courtesy bus.
On arrival at Bergamo there is a Bus to main Centro train station just o/s arrivals for just a few euros with a journey time of around 40 mins.
The hotel we chose - the Concorde was out of the City Centre but on one of the 3 tube lines and you could in fact walk in approx 20 mins. The hotel was, however, very luxurious and there was a fantastic Gelateria (ice cream shop) a couple of doors down and lots of other shops on the way to the Duomo which made up for the walk.
Aside from the tube there area also trams and buses and you can ...
knowledge on places to go.
The hotel itself is very clean and the facilities (sauna, gym) etc are fantastic. The food is wonderful, the only drawback being the price (around £18 for steak meal), but when you taste it its worth it!. The breakfast was excellent a large buffet from english breakfast to continental.
I would recommend this hotel to anyone who is visiting the NEC or who plans to travel from BirminghamAirport. You can park at the hotel why you go on holiday and you can book all in packages which include parking. We did this before we went to greece last year. The hotel cost us around £160 which included 14 days parking.
This is definitely my choice of hotel in birmingham. I have no experience of the Crown Plaza in the City centre as I have never stayed there so just bear in mind that this is the one by the NEC. ...
Advantages: Central location, very easy access. Disadvantages: None, apart from being 100 miles away from London.
BirminghamAirport must be the best airport for access anywhere in England. Sitting virtually on the M42 (and hence easy access to the M5 and M40) and very close to the M6 (and hence easy access to the M1), it lies within a mile or so of the central hub of the UK motorway system. As it also has a station on the Birmingham to Euston line within a few hundred yards, it is also super simple to reach by train.
Car parking at the airport is extensive, and reasonably cheap. There are excellent drop-off and collection parking bays directly outside the arrivals and departure gates. Taxis are always available, and the journey to the City Centre hotels etc can usually be accomplished in less than 15 minutes.
The airport itself is compact, and well laid out. The general facilities are excellent, and the information systems are extensive ...
