Advantages: somewhere to sleep,
Disadvantages: lost my booking, twice

...was advised - is the Paragon Hotel on Alcester St, one half of a converted Victorian Hospital, the other half being another more expensive hotel. The room rate when searched online was for my purposes £40 - this rate being for a standard twin room. A single would cost £30, and a Superior twin £75. Knowing the room is going to be little more than a place to pass out the cheaper twin rate won out, so off to the online booking section I wobble (worth ...
...best description). Filling in basic details as are required for a hotel booking including card details to pay a deposit, press confirm. Simple. Only it wasnt, 24 hours later still lacking any sort of confirmation email I called them up, after apparently speaking to someone I virtually every dept finally a Reservations bod gets on the other end of the phone. The Thistle Birmingham City Hotel is situated a few miles away from Birmingham International Airport, easily accessible from the major motorway network and close to New Street Station. I stayed at the hotel for 8weeks on a business trip and really enjoyed my stay there. The rooms are very clean, its well maintained. Staff very friendly and helpful. I stayed here earlier this week with workmates. Booked a double room, it was not the best room I've ever stayed in and was tatty but it was only for 1 night so I could put up with it. However whist we were out for dinner, the staff entered my room, packed my belongings THEN THEY RE-LET MY ROOM!!!! I was allocated the the grottiest twin room I have ever seen, it was fithy whith marks all over the walls, stained carpet damaged furniture and extremely ...
...done so! The breafst was not much better, pre cooked and left in warmers that didn't do a good job, everything was bearly warm, the crockery was not clean. ...friend through SpaBreak. Having used the De Vere, Swindon as the reception venue for my wedding last year, I was expecting it to be fabulous. I was sent a confirmation email advising me that rooms were guaranteed from 3pm. ...pleasure I report that the City Inn in Birmingham is a hidden gem. Location The hotel is located in the trendy Brindley Place development just off Broad Street in Birmingham, and as such is ideally situated for pubbing, clubbing and general merriment and yet being secluded (for a city) enough for a bit of peace and quiet. ...aspect of any hotel, and City Inn is a match and even beats hotels that are 3 times the price. The room we had was on the 3rd floor with a view over Brindley Place. All rooms come with floor-to-ceiling windows, which is a fabulous touch. The bed provided was a Queen Size, a little small, but very comfortable.
