Much, much more than "Satisfactory"
Advantages: Luxury hotel with a very friendly and helpful staff Disadvantages: No problems with the hotel, but I suspect that the locals damaged my car tyre - what did it actually achieve?
...ways, staying in the Birmingham Marriott on the way up, and the Newcastle Marriott (review to follow) on the way back down a week later. Both hotels were booked via “Priceline” and I thought that the (room-only) rate of UKP 45.00 (plus fees and taxes amounting to about UKP12 in total) per room per night that I managed to secure was superb. Before we left, I checked availability on the Marriott website and our room was available for UKP 195.00. So ... ...and the directions from the Marriott website were very clear indeed. Both Amanda’s driving and map-reading skills are infamous (or, at least, they are now – thanks to the power of the Internet!). I could, I suppose, have navigated and let Amanda do the driving. Wanting, however, to arrive in one piece, I drove and she navigated. This would have been fine, but – although I love her to bits – she just can’t read a map. So we enjoyed a jolly tour of ...

Meetings at the Mal - not what I expected
Advantages: Comfortable stay in a large, clean room Disadvantages: Meetings were not thought out properly
I stayed in Malmaison for a four day training course last week and I wasn’t going to write a review because it is so similar to the one I wrote on Malmaison London, I would have just repeated myself. However, there were quite a few little things that could have been improved with the meeting facilities and I thought I had to air my views!
The Room
Ok, so briefly I will write about the room. As we booked through work I assume we only had a ... ...the one we had in London. The bed was huge and there was a lot of walk round space in the bedroom. There was a large desk with broadband internet access – either from a cable or wireless, a large TV, CD player and a really big wardrobe. It was really comfortable and was air conditioned. The only thing was that the window was quite small and overlooked the Mailbox, but this was a minor fault.
The Bathroom
The bathroom had everything I would ...

Hotel Birmingham Metrpole,Birmingham
Advantages: Close to NEC Disadvantages: Very poor value for money. Inefficient service.
I booked in advance through conference organisers. This was a mistake. Suggest you make own arrangement with hotel direct. I paid £135 for a small single bedded room with an old TV. I reckon I could have got this same room well under £100 if I had booked myself direct. Being the closest hotel to the NEC is probably why it is one of the most expensive. I compared my facilities with others in different hotels. They all had better value for money. Hotel ... ...newspaper. I was charged for it but it never arrived. Then I made use of the rapid checkout service which promised a receipt would be sent on to me. This did not occur so I had to telephone the hotel for this.
In summary a very overpriced hotel for facilities offerred and service provided. ...

Good budget hotel
Advantages: modern Disadvantages: lack of restauarant at weekend
...have recently been refurbished, standard holiday inn express feel and design and very clean which for me is the most important thing. The bathroom was clean with a shower and shampoo and liquid soap. Tea and coffee facilities as is usual and a decent sized television with a good reception. One of the things that I like about the Holiday Inn express brand is that a free breakfast is standard meaning you get one even when you pay on points which is ... ...yoghurt, tea, coffee, orange juice etc. The hotels location really is only convenient if you have a car, please don't be fooled by the "Birmingham" title, as this hotel isn't in the city centre. I'd recommend this hotel, although only if you can get a good value rate (under £50.00, especially on a weekend when the hotel appears to run on limited service with no restaurant etc). I did notice in the reception area though that there is a microwave that ...

A FAIR OLD TIME AT THE FAIRLAWNS
Advantages: Delicious food, friendly staff & a overall nice enviroment to be in Disadvantages: Some spa treatments could be improved
INTRODUCTION
Due to the dark and dingy weather and lack of time my boyfriend and me decided to have a night at a spa to try and cheer us up. We always seem to decide to go away at the last minute so leave ourselves very little to choice in where to go as most places are booked up. However we have since come across a good booking website that seems to be able to get us availability last minute where ever we want. On this occasion we didn’t want to ... ...West Midlands for a change. The one that seemed the nicest was The Fairlawn’s Hotel and Spa which has sounded nice because it is privately owned, been around since 1984 and is set in 9 acres of pretty grounds perfect! I emailed for availability on the Wednesday night for Saturday night as you usual arrive have your spa treatments on that day and leave the following day but as they didn’t have any availability they said we could arrive Friday evening ...
