A room with a view
Advantages: Brilliant view Disadvantages: Over Priced
...to be pampered. The Hyatt is located on Broad Street in Birmingham and is 24 stories high giving a fabulous view over the city, our room was located on the 18th floor (high up at our request) and the view was phenomenal. The cost for 2 nights bed and breakfast set us back just under £400 so we had high expectations.
On our arrival (and much to my annoyance), the valet parking service was not available, we had to leave our cases with the conceierge ... ...from the hotel (which costs £12 per 24 hours, and if I'm honest doesn't look too safe, although no harm came to the car during our stay). After the long walk back from the car park we collected our baggage and struggled to get it through the doors, as the concierege just stood there watching, now I know it's my fault for over-packing, but a girl gotta have choices of outfit! , previously when I have stayed in a small bed and breakfast for £30 a night ...

Hotel Birmingham Metrpole,Birmingham
Advantages: Close to NEC Disadvantages: Very poor value for money. Inefficient service.
I booked in advance through conference organisers. This was a mistake. Suggest you make own arrangement with hotel direct. I paid £135 for a small single bedded room with an old TV. I reckon I could have got this same room well under £100 if I had booked myself direct. Being the closest hotel to the NEC is probably why it is one of the most expensive. I compared my facilities with others in different hotels. They all had better value for money. Hotel ... ...newspaper. I was charged for it but it never arrived. Then I made use of the rapid checkout service which promised a receipt would be sent on to me. This did not occur so I had to telephone the hotel for this.
In summary a very overpriced hotel for facilities offerred and service provided. ...

THE JURY IS 4 TO 1 IN FAVOUR
Advantages: Super location, cheap drinks, on-site parking, high speed internet access in rooms, good food Disadvantages: Very large hotel, poor administration, charge for car-parking, room windows don't open
...now the fourth in the Jurys chain I have used, and to be fair, probably the best, but also not without a few minor niggles, but more about that later.
WHO ARE THEY?
For anyone who is not aware of the Jurys Doyle chain, they are an Irish chain with over 30 properties in the UK, Ireland and the states and claim to be one of the fastest growing hotel chains in Europe. They have three levels of offering, the budget Jurys Inn range, the Jurys Hotel, ... ...BOOKING
The Jurys Inn Birmingham is one of their budget outlets.
One night was booked on my behalf, and the other I had to do myself. This meant contacting the hotel after booking to tie the two reservations together to ensure I wasn't checking in and out of my room with a full day meeting ahead. This went smoothly eventually but did take a some work.
Because of the need to match the two reservations, I did try booking on the phone, but the best ...

Disappointing pampering trip
Advantages: Spa, reputation, location Disadvantages: Customer service, rooms, organisation
...friend through SpaBreak. Having used the De Vere, Swindon as the reception venue for my wedding last year, I was expecting it to be fabulous. I was sent a confirmation email advising me that rooms were guaranteed from 3pm. We planned our journey to arrive soon after 3 so that we could get settled in right away, and make the most of our short time break. We arrived at reception at 3.40pm and were told by reception that the room was not ready. She ... ...did not assure us that the room would be ready then, nor did she direct us to the lounge or any other place we could spend the half hour. We wandered away aimlessly from reception, too stunned to complain. Eventually we were directed to the sports bar by the (very helpful) doorman. When we returned in 40 minutes (well we didn’t want to walk all the way back to find the room still not ready) reception had to phone through to check our room was ...

Meetings at the Mal - not what I expected
Advantages: Comfortable stay in a large, clean room Disadvantages: Meetings were not thought out properly
I stayed in Malmaison for a four day training course last week and I wasn’t going to write a review because it is so similar to the one I wrote on Malmaison London, I would have just repeated myself. However, there were quite a few little things that could have been improved with the meeting facilities and I thought I had to air my views!
The Room
Ok, so briefly I will write about the room. As we booked through work I assume we only had a ... ...the one we had in London. The bed was huge and there was a lot of walk round space in the bedroom. There was a large desk with broadband internet access – either from a cable or wireless, a large TV, CD player and a really big wardrobe. It was really comfortable and was air conditioned. The only thing was that the window was quite small and overlooked the Mailbox, but this was a minor fault.
The Bathroom
The bathroom had everything I would ...
