Hotel Birmingham Metrpole,Birmingham
Advantages: Close to NEC Disadvantages: Very poor value for money. Inefficient service.
I booked in advance through conference organisers. This was a mistake. Suggest you make own arrangement with hotel direct. I paid £135 for a small single bedded room with an old TV. I reckon I could have got this same room well under £100 if I had booked myself direct. Being the closest hotel to the NEC is probably why it is one of the most expensive. I compared my facilities with others in different hotels. They all had better value for money. Hotel ... ...newspaper. I was charged for it but it never arrived. Then I made use of the rapid checkout service which promised a receipt would be sent on to me. This did not occur so I had to telephone the hotel for this.
In summary a very overpriced hotel for facilities offerred and service provided. ...

Very professional hotel, Crowne Plaza near Birmingham NEC
Advantages: Very professional service, helpful staff, large room Disadvantages: Not the cheapest, although you get what you pay for
...review is of the hotel, Crowne Plaza, at Birmingham National Exhibition Centre (NEC). I stayed here for one night in February 2010, and was also able to eat the evening meal and breakfast in the hotel. The room was quite expensive, but was booked at quite short notice, so it wasn't possible to take advantage of the offers which I've noticed can be taken at this hotel if you're prepared to book a bit further in advance. CAR PARKING: There is a lot ... ...so you are unlikely to have problems parking. Parking is expensive, ten pounds for a day, but if you take a meal in the hotel, then they waive this car parking fee. The car parking ticket can be collected at reception when you're leaving, and the car park seemed secure and well looked after, and full of rather expensive cars! RECEPTION: The reception in the hotel was large and very clean and well organised. There were two members of staff on reception, ...

Avoid the Crowne Plaza NEC
Advantages: None Disadvantages: Still in business
I stayed at this hotel for one night for business purposes. It was truly awful. After checking in around 2000 I tried to order room service food but after trying to get through for 20 minutes I gave up and walked to reception to place an order. I queued for 10 minutes to speak to somebody and then was told that they would not take an order at reception. I finally persuaded them to do so, to be told the food would take an hour and fifteen minutes. ... ...was over-priced and the wine I chose was unpalatable at 14 GBP - I am no expert but it was far from as described and ended up cleaning the pipework. Directly.
I could not get an iron that was working to press a shirt, I couldn't get at taxi booked for me and neither my TV nor phone worked properly. Not surprised as the TV was of CRT vintage. There was no proper shower (just a hand held that you could not stand under) and the towels were so threadbare ...

A SUPERB HOTEL .
Advantages: EXCELLENT HOTEL Disadvantages: NOTHING
Crowne Plaza Birmingham NEC
My wife and I have stayed here a couple of times, always in March and yes you’ve probably guessed, it’s when Crufts is on at the NEC.
Strange but a few years ago you had to book wayyy way in advance to get a room but with this recession where all going through, getting a room is easy. I suppose the stick that Crufts came under last year didn’t help either but anyhow getting back to the ... ...vary in price from £120 to £220 depending on things such as lake view, breakfast included or evening meal and breakfast. But as March approaches then the room prices tend to rocket.
The room is a standard large bedroom and a bathroom.
What more to add to the room? It comes with TV, Kettle, Ironing equip, small table and 2 comfy chairs. We always go for the lake view and you can watch people arriving with their assortment of pooches in the early ...

Dirty Travelodge Birmingham Central
Advantages: Location and cheap if booked in advance Disadvantages: Filthy mattress and furniture not fit for a dog to sleep on
...and the location of this Travelodge is good, 6 pounds for 24 hour parking was also a bonus in a City Centre. We arrived and were given the keys to 103, on entering the room we were disappointed as it was our understanding from the web site that this hotel had been refurbished Nov/Dec 09. The furniture (a chair and a settee) were disgusting, all stained and covered in crumbs from whatever had last been eaten in there. We asked at reception for something ... ...cleaning staff must have seen the state on the mattress and duvet since they change the bedding for each guest supposedly. My advice - when you check into any Travelodge check the mattress and duvet etc and make the staff change anything not up to scratch BEFORE you sleep there! ...
