Good budget hotel
Advantages: modern Disadvantages: lack of restauarant at weekend
...have recently been refurbished, standard holiday inn express feel and design and very clean which for me is the most important thing. The bathroom was clean with a shower and shampoo and liquid soap. Tea and coffee facilities as is usual and a decent sized television with a good reception. One of the things that I like about the Holiday Inn express brand is that a free breakfast is standard meaning you get one even when you pay on points which is ... ...yoghurt, tea, coffee, orange juice etc. The hotels location really is only convenient if you have a car, please don't be fooled by the "Birmingham" title, as this hotel isn't in the city centre. I'd recommend this hotel, although only if you can get a good value rate (under £50.00, especially on a weekend when the hotel appears to run on limited service with no restaurant etc). I did notice in the reception area though that there is a microwave that ...

Advantages: friendly staff Disadvantages: none
...about my stay at the apollo hotel in Birmingham it was easy to find i got off the train and got a taxi to the hagley road ,i was great ed with a very warm welcome the reception staff were there smartly dressed and very useful.
i was given my key and directions, it was only on the second floor so up in lift along a long corridor i was there.
i opened the room door with a card key and was shocked there was a well made double bed and wardrobe i asked ... ...get and how clean it was spotless ,with nice glean fresh towels, shampoo, soap and shower gel in the bathroom.
there was a nice TV with remote and skytv.
there was tea coffee and a kettle provide just not enough sugar or milk when you have a sweet tooth but the biscuits were a gods send i also found a hair dryer which was good as i forgot mine.
i had booked a room only which cost £25 for the night but for an extra £5 i could have had breakfast ...

Hotel Birmingham Metrpole,Birmingham
Advantages: Close to NEC Disadvantages: Very poor value for money. Inefficient service.
I booked in advance through conference organisers. This was a mistake. Suggest you make own arrangement with hotel direct. I paid £135 for a small single bedded room with an old TV. I reckon I could have got this same room well under £100 if I had booked myself direct. Being the closest hotel to the NEC is probably why it is one of the most expensive. I compared my facilities with others in different hotels. They all had better value for money. Hotel ... ...newspaper. I was charged for it but it never arrived. Then I made use of the rapid checkout service which promised a receipt would be sent on to me. This did not occur so I had to telephone the hotel for this.
In summary a very overpriced hotel for facilities offerred and service provided. ...

Its a Paragon of no virtues...much like myself
Advantages: somewhere to sleep, Disadvantages: lost my booking, twice
...was advised - is the Paragon Hotel on Alcester St, one half of a converted Victorian Hospital, the other half being another more expensive hotel.
The room rate when searched online was for my purposes £40 - this rate being for a standard twin room. A single would cost £30, and a Superior twin £75. Knowing the room is going to be little more than a place to pass out the cheaper twin rate won out, so off to the online booking section I wobble (worth ... ...best description). Filling in basic details as are required for a hotel booking including card details to pay a deposit, press confirm. Simple.
Only it wasnt, 24 hours later still lacking any sort of confirmation email I called them up, after apparently speaking to someone I virtually every dept finally a Reservations bod gets on the other end of the phone. No record of my booking, which is slightly concerning, how many other people have they failed ...

Taking the P out of "Quality"
Advantages: Somewhere to park, food quite good Disadvantages: Filthy cramped rooms, uncomfortable beds, noisy
This is possibly the least aptly named hotel I have ever had the misfortune to stay in. You know when irritating people do that annoying thing with their fingers to describe speech marks in the air? This hotel is the only situation where such gesturing becomes permissable. It is de rigeur to use this hand gesture when speaking the name.
When I was booking in there was a large party of asylum seekers being booked in and the receptionist was having ... ...not having the correct paperwork and doing that old English chestnut, talking loudly to try to make herself understood. Meanwhile, the queue grew and grew. Eventually, one of the other people stood staring at the queue decided to start booking in as well and I finally got booked in, and was given a key. Taking myself up to room 154 I tried my key and found that it wouldn't fit the door. I dragged myself back to reception, where themore helpful of ...
