You'll find Bistro Lyonnaise on the Alcester Road heading south out of the city; you'll spot it on your right just past the Fighting Cocks pub in Moseley Village. Tucked away in the heart of Moseley the 'Bistro' is easily accessible by the ever-frequent 50 and 35 buses and the more random no.1. If you drive there you'll find a public car park further along the Alcester Rd opposite the Cross restaurant and bar or you could always try and squeeze it into one of the side streets nearby.

Here is the blurb straight from the Bistro’s own site on those good fellows who started it all:

Chef Ahmed Erroudani , from Lyons, is a classically trained French Gourmet Chef of some 15 years standing. Well-versed in the culinary arts, his skill and expertise will ensure an excellent meal every time.

Imogen Meeris , is a noted local artist and a post graduate in Art and Education at UCE Birmingham. She manages the administrative side of the Bistro, and promotes local Art and artists by displaying their works in this popular restaurant.

Ricardo Rodrigues , is a head waiter of the "Old School". He acts as the Head of House at the Bistro. His smooth, friendly and professional manner, gained from his training in the Channel Islands and beyond, ensure that diners can complete their gastronomic experience with the minimum of fuss.

The 'Bistro' is very compact but also quite cosy and has a real authentic charm about it. If you’re after stainless steel, glass and laminate floors then this is not the place for you. The ‘real’ wooden tables and chairs do not match and this only helps to add to the feel of the place. The lighting is subdued and there are various colourful art works on the walls. In the summer months you have a great view out into Moseley itself where you can watch the world and it’s weirdoes drift by. Whenever I've been the staff have been very helpful and friendly. The menu is quite small which I find encouraging it usually means that everything will be fresh and not left on some hot plate for an hour. There are usually specials on the chalkboard and these are often well worth checking out. The house plonk is fine and not too pricey at about £4-5 a bottle and they also do a selection of bottled beers and spirits.

Starters range from £3-5 including such wonders as goat’s cheese and the incredible scallops, which are to die for. Main courses start from around £7 and can go up to £12 I always go for the rack of lamb which is baked in the oven with rosemary and served in a red wine sauce, it is really tender and full of flavour. Puddings are in the same price range as the starters and you’ve just got to have the Tart au Citron, so zingy and fresh its making my mouth water just thinking about it.

We’ve been a few times and our valentine’s meal there was very special. The setting was very romantic and the staff very attentive but if you’re planning on going you must book up well in advance as something as good as this often fills up quickly.

So if you fancy something intimate and French try Bistro Lyonnaise after all at only £30-35 a head you can’t go wrong. Check out their website for contact details and most of all enjoy.
