Blackpool was one of those sea side places that I was always taken too when I was a kid, that and Llandudno for some reason, however when Blackpool was mentioned I always used to get excited because the tackiness of Blackpool is exciting for a kid.

However, as I have got older, I don't seem to have grown out of Blackpool being one of the better places for a day trip if you come from the Midlands. Two hours drive up North of the M6, if that and you are there, with plenty to keep you occupied throughout the day. Being a wild child though and love anything fun, Blackpool Pleasure Beach has always appealed to me and is one of those places that I could spend all day, the good thing about it to is it is free to walk around, no entrance fee so if you want to walk round, go into one of the numerous arcades there and not actually go on any rides, then you can do at your leisure.

Although the main attraction of Blackpool Pleasure Beach has got to be the huge amounts of rides, there are still plenty of stalls what you can wander round and try and win prizes by trying your luck at darts, basket ball, catching the duck on the hoop, etc, however for some reason these always come across to me as a bit of a scam and you never seem to win anything and if you dso its only a small toy and you need to spend a fortune to win something of a bigger size. The donkey derby always seems to be the more legit of these kind of games, where you throw the balls up a ramp hoping to get them into a hole which scores points and makes your donkey get going in a race.

The rides are fantastic at the Pleasure Beach, and if you are daring you should take advantage of the Pepsi Max Big One, the tallest roller coaster i have ever been on and one what certainly gets your heart pumping full of adrenaline. As you get on the Pepsi Max, it takes a while to reach its peak and basically the longer it takes, the more wound up you get about the huge top that it is going to take when it reaches the top. The gradient of the drop is very steep and to be honest you don't have a great deal holding you in, however you are secure enough. As it takes the drop, you come very close to wall at the bottom and it always gives me the impression that you are going to hit it for some reason. I am not a fearful person at all, and always seem to go on this ride on my own, because everyone who I have ever been with has not been able to pluck up the courage to go on it.

The Big Dipper

This has been here for as long as I can remember and was one of the very first roller coasters that I ever went on. Its rickety in its own right, however must be well maintained for it to still keep going. Its a roller coaster that basically just goes up and down, loads of dips in it, thats where it got its name. Lasts quite a while for a ride and is normally one of those these days that you go on because you can get on it quick and not because its fantastic. Its just nice to cram as much in as possible as some rides do have horrendous queues.

Valhalla

This one is one of my favourite rides, only been on it a couple of times, however you are not going to come off it dry, you get soaked. Its a roller coasters that goes through ice, wind, fire and snow. Its all within a dark tunnel so you are oblivious to what is actually going to come next as it is very dark, the only thing that gives it away is the temperature as you are approaching various sections and you can then gather what is coming next. If you don't want to get wet on this ride, then it is advisable to purchase a poncho, as you will never come off this ride dry.

Avalanche

Another ride thats seems to be have been here forever, the Avalanche. Imagine you are in a bob sleigh and then you can understand what this ride is like, thats all you can explain it as. Starts off very slow and picks up speed as a bob sleigh would and then you are just thrown left and right through various twists and turns until you reach the end.

Irn Bru Revolution

This is very similar to what used to be the Thunder Looper at Alton Towers however just slightly different. You have to walk up steps to get to this ride and then when in the car, it goes along a track, drops down and takes one sinngle loop and then ends up on a platform. After it then takes you backwards and does the same loop and finito the ride is over. There are not may rides that have loops in them so if you like to go upside down then its good just to try it, however it is over in a matter of seconds.

Wild Mouse

This is fantastic and very quick really and again very rickety. The sharp turns that the mouse takes are unbelievable and make you feel as though you are going to leave the rails. Not for the fainthearted this one isn't. It does have me screaming a little in apprehensive as a turn is made.

There are plenty of other rides available and lots for the kids too. A lot of height restrictions are in place though for the safety of younger people.

Food is widely available with kiosk everywhere selling the usual kind of things that Blackpool sells and also cafe's for the older generation who just want a cup of tea. There are also a couple of places where you can obtain a alcoholic beverage if thats what you prefer.

In general Blackpool Pleasure Beach is fantastic, I will keep returning to see how things change over the years. It brings back a whole lot of childhood memories.
