Pleasure Beach Resort (Previously Pleasure Beach and before that Blackpool Pleasure Beach) is situated along the Fylde coast in Blackpool, Lancashire and is a 42 acre amusement park owned and managed by the Thompson family. The park is famous for its bright and cheery history, and for this reason still fully operates some of the oldest and most traditional coming-of-age rides in the country. Most noticeable of the park is the fact that it houses five wooden roller coasters, including 'Grand National' which has become a world famous coaster in its own right. This double-racing twin tracked coaster is now over 60 years old but is still in full working order.

The thing which teeters Pleasure Beach above other UK parks is the fact that it has something for everyone. The location of the park means that the rides themselves act as advertising beacons. The 215ft Pepsi Max Big One roller coaster completely envelopes the park and the newest guise of a spectacular dancing water show with jets that splutter sputter 100ft into the air will please anyone willing to take five minutes out of their busy day to take in this fantastic rival to Las Vegas.
Pleasure Beach itself has vastly become an amusement park of sheer class, with outstanding brasserie outlets and art deco decoration throughout the park. The lavish walkways are clean, as are the catering facilities which are recognised as being some of the best in the industry. Pleasure Beach managing director Amanda Thompson has obviously taken the park in a super-cool, oasis-calm direction, yet the park is still thriving with an unbeatable atmosphere, as the £8million Infusion thunders into life, sending riders on a whirlwind water experience to amaze and astound the senses as it loops and dives around streaming jets and a spectacular fountain.

Then there are the Golden oldies, such as the Big Dipper which once held roller coaster marathon runner Richard Rodriguez. As old as the park itself, this classic wooden coaster is a must for families and thrill seekers alike! For a competetive edge, thrill seekers can rival each other on the Grand National, a Charles Paige designed wooden thriller with an intense double drop and lightening fast turns and plummets. Speaking of competition, why not climb into your own bobsled and take for the high speed tracks of the Avalanche with its twists and turns- its the only bobsled ride in the UK! After that turn your world upside down on the Barr sponsored Irn-Bru Revolution, then get ready to do it in reverse- a real stonmach churning coaster to savour. Don't miss the UK's most famous and admired roller coaster- the 215ft Pepsi Max Big One. This towering ride is as famous in the architect world as it is amongst the enthusiasts, and no wonder! Reaching speeds of up to 77mph this amazing coaster is certainly head and shoulders above the rest and will no doubt take you to new heights. Bling will have you in a headrush as its glittering goondolas swing you in all different directions! For a complete rush take your seat on Ice Blast as it catapults you 210ft up its steel tower then catch your breath and your stomach at the top as your crescendo brings you crashing back down to earth. Round of your day with a ride on Valhalla, the multi million pound Millenium investment that will take you through storms, snow, wind and fire on its Viking legacy. Thrilling drops, sudden changes in temperature and amazing special effects mean that you simply cannot ignor this world-class water ride- but remember you will get wet! (TIP- buy a rain mac!)

Families need not worry- there is plenty to do for everyone at Pleasure Beach. Once you have tried and tested the woodies and family coasters, take in everything else the park has to offer. New for 2009 is the £750,000 Spectacular Dancing Water Show. Created by some of the biggest water feature designers from Las Vegas, this amazing show sees water jets dance to all kinds of music- from classical to rock and even rugby anthems! and on a sunny Blackjpool day the fountains reach an amazing 100ft, rivalling the parks own Pepsi Max Big One. A ride on the Wild Mouse is sure to have your raise raised. Steep incline drops and hairpin bends makes this thrilling coaster not for the nervous! The River Caves is a calmer ride and will take you through many generations of the earth- from the land of the Dinosaurs to the Egyptian conspiricies and the Aztec kingdoms- this is a ride not to be missed after a long day thrilling the coasters! Step aboard the world's most haunted Ghost Train. The name ghost train originates at Pleasure Beach! This spooky ride has 2 floors of ghoulish fun. After that take to the skies on the century old Flying Machines, the oldest ride at Pleasure Beach or visit Alice in her Wonderland. Kiddies can visit Bradley and Bella Beaver at Beaver Creek, their own theme park with miniscule rides and attractions and a thrilling Log Flume! Fionally gather the family and have it out on Steeplechase, a racing coaster on mules. A great ride! End your day with a relaxing ride on the Monorail and see the park from all sorts of angles!

In terms of dining, guests are extremely well catered for. Known for its high design architect work and theatric themeing, Pleasure Beach has some of the fanciest catering outlets in the industry! From traditional grab-and-takeaway bites at the UK's largest Burger King chain to posh wining and dining in the privatley-hired White Tower restaurant and not forgetting the American diner 'Coasters', eating has never been so easy or so pleasing at Pleasure Beach! Entry to the park is dealt with in 2 ways... you may either purchase a ride wristband (£15 for children and usually £25-34 for adults, season depending) or a new 'Freedom Pass' for £5 which allows you entry into the park. Once you have your tickets (which is usually a fast and painless job despite the fear inducing queues to get into the park) you enter under one of the parks oldest (now un-operating) rides 'Noah's Ark' where you are assisted by park admin or security guards who will check any of your items before allowing you onto the park. One personal items have been checked, you must enter your specially printed Freedom Pass (which is given free upon purchase of a wristband) into a scanning machine which subsequently unlocks a turnstile which you may now pass to access the park. Although this air-port tight security measure may seem daunting it is actually very effective and doesn't affect you too much following you follow all procedures. Once you are onto the park itself you are left to your own free will, however in order to access rides and most attractions you must scan your wristband at each entrance to unlock the turnstiles.

Queues for rides really cannot be determined as the park tends to be busy throughout the year (cheap offers and overly long opening times on peak days usually pull in a lot of younger people and families especially) however long queues tend to move quickly when rides are running to full capacity (which is usually very often thankfully) In terms of ride breakdowns, Pleasure Beach deals well with any problem and will usually have a ride up and running only minutes after it has been closed for repairs. Certain rides are forced to closed in high winds due to high costs during roll backs on coasters, but Pleasure Beach will do everything it can to make sure everything is open for you. Personal items can be taken onto some of the rides, however personal lockers are provided on the larger rides. One criticism is that each ride has its own 'opening' and 'closing' time and usually rides open and close within a large space of each other which can be quite confusing. The park may be open from 11am-8:30pm, but some of the larger rides for example may not start until 12:00pm and close at 7:00pm. Some guests may be baffled by this and may be quite disappointed that only selected rides actually remain open towards the park closing time. Another criticism is cost. Now I know the park redeems itself by offering discounts when you book online, but £30 for a wristband can certainly seem a bit pricey and also food and merchandises in the park are sky high too. I would recommend taking a picnic or just leaving the park to dine, unless you have the money to splash about. Other than this, Pleasure Beach did us all pleasure in every way it could. I would certainly recommend Pleasure Beach as a must-do attraction, especially if you are the the North West of England or staying in Blackpool.
