Blackpool in general

I was 5 years of age when I first visited Blackpool, taken there by my parents and grandparents for a family holiday and I loved it. Now lets be honest, we all done things at 5 years old which we enjoyed then but that would not entertain us now but Blackpool still entertains me to this day ... Read review

Oh I do like to be beside the seaside!

Advantages: Amazing atmosphere and more fun than you can shake a stick at.
Disadvantages: A bit grubby at parts but what the heck!

...not entertain us now but Blackpool still entertains me to this day (30 years on).

I now have a 5 year old son of my own who has already visited Blackpool on several occasions and is well and truly hooked on the place just as I was and just the other week I took my 11 month old daughter there, too young to understand it all now of course but she too will soon be a Blackpool addict I am sure.

Ok so what does Blackpool ...
...many things to do in Blackpool including a fantastic zoo, a fairly decent deep sea centre, a DR Who exhibition, dozens of very, very good amusement arcades and much, much more but the main attractions of Blackpool are the massive theme park (the pleasure beach), the three giant piers crammed with things to do and probably the main attraction for most the world famous Blackpool Tower.

Different people will of course find different things ... more

Family Friendly

Underneath The Tarnished Reputation Theres Still A Gem

Advantages: Lots of family seaside fun, a great break with kids, can be done on a budget, fab attractions
Disadvantages: Can be busy in peak, some really tacky areas, some attractions are expensive and not so good.

...the same negative opinion of Blackpool as lots of people. It had been around 25 years since I was last there, as a child on a trip with my Mum and a couple of aunt's and cousins. My memories included wet, grey and cold 'miserable' weather, finding the B&B we had booked into was awful (when the landlady answered the door with a black eye it was definitely a sign of things to come, and us kids were terrified when fighting broke out on the landing...we ...
...here and no visit to Blackpool beach would be complete without it. The donkeys seem really well cared for and are very friendly. They are, rightly so, restricted in their hours of work so won't be there all day and are prohibited from working on a Friday...even the donkeys need a day off after all. I really like the beach on a clear evening. The sun sets right into the sea and it's an impressive sight in the right conditions, with the sea sparkling ...

Blackpool Revisited

Advantages: Plus ca change

...a famous seaside place called Blackpool That's noted for fresh air and fun And Mr. and Mrs. Ramsbottom Went there with young Albert, their son. They didn't think much to the ocean, The waves they were piddlin' and small. There were no wrecks and nobody drownded, 'Fact, nothin' to laugh at at all!" * At about the time when Stanley Holloway had music hall audiences rolling in the aisles with his monologues about the Ramsbottom family, I came to Blackpool ...
...something of my visits to Blackpool as a boy. Suffice it here to say that I adored the place: the piers, the open-topped "toast-rack" trams, the tower, the beach that stretched to the horizon, the arcades along the front ("catch-pennies" as my grandmother called them), Pablo's two-inch thick ice cream wafers, fizzy pop from bottles with wire-hinged ceramic tops, Bloomfield Road stadium where the likes of Matthews and Mortenson still performed - I ...

WHEN IN BLACKPOOL DO AS THE COMMONERS DO

Advantages: Fun, lots to do, fairly cheap.
Disadvantages: Noisy, tacky, can end up spending too much money.

...Read on..everyone should go to Blackpool at least once but you need preparation first.. -Take Comfy Shoes It’s a long way down the golden mile and those white stilettos will do your feet no good. If you really insist on wearing them, you can always take the tram or the bus down the mile, or even splash out and get a taxi, but then you will have less money for the arcades and booze. So take a pair of trainers, and if you really want to, stick ...
...Yes ok so Blackpool is tacky. However, having read some of the other opinions about Blackpool, I felt I should defend it. It's not for perverts and is suitable for all age groups. There is a friendly atmosphere that you do not get in other places. It was a quiet weekend when we were there but it was very clean and the beach was not at all dirty. The nights at high season can be quite rowdy but no more than any other city at night. On Sunday there ...

BLACKPOOL AND LARGE VODKA WITH RED BULL

Advantages: Something for everyone: Rollercoaster, Victorian Piers, and oh yeah, English PUBS!
Disadvantages: Hey, who turned out the Lights?

Did you know that Blackpool has more tourist rooms than any other holiday venue in Europe? Blackpool is a unique English venue! Where else can one experience the largest Rollercoaster in the UK (Europe?), plus Streets with more lights than GATLINBURG, Tennessee and a Victorian Seafront next door? Business called me to Blackpool, and I was booked into the Doric Hotel, advertised as a family hotel, two stars, sounded a bit basic, but for the picture ...
...of the Lights - sorry, Blackpool Illuminations! Which consist of SCADS of lights throughout the town and along the Promenade (beside the Sea) from September through the middle of November. Since they look like something you would expect at Christmas or at Gatlinburg, Tennessee, it seems odd they turn them out mid-November, rather than leaving them lit over December/January-holidays? And we saw The Big One Roller Coaster (I declined to ride it, as ...

PLEASUREPOOL

Advantages: Something for everyone
Disadvantages: Having to go home

...reason for people going to Blackpool is because of the lights every year they have different lights light all up and down the streets and they are fantastic, also there tower Blackpool tower its fantastic it has a ballroom a circus, they have lots of different levels in there for you to visit, there newest attraction is the walk of faith. Now lol it is called this because of the piece of glass that has been put into the floor and as your in the ...
...The coach station in Blackpool is great you walk out of it via a pathway instead of the exstortionat taxies all lined up outside and there are the hotels bed and breakfasts they start at £8. per person pernight and upwards depending to weather you have bed and breakfast or evening meal, then of course depending on what kind of accomodation you want the price can be through the roof like £150 upwards. I will say its not one of the most desireable ...

Executive error

Advantages: beautiful views and good transport system
Disadvantages: lift could not be accessed . food and buffet style not 4 star

was less than we expected and we had to sit in a very busy area in fact other guests had to brush past our table taking the table cloth with them. We are still awaiting the wine list.No seats in any of the lounges due to wedding guests who also had to stand . Prices in general for coffees, teas and alcohol were high but not the standard some obscure brands. B&B at Blackpool equally as good or bad. I had hoped to have a bit of pampering but unfortunately there were no appointments, the pool was fine but a bit of a trail to get there. ...

Cheap option for an overnight stay

Advantages: Cheap - clean - good parking
Disadvantages: A bit further away from the pleasure beach

Blackpool South Shore Travelodge I know that Travelodge's can get a bad press, but we have stopped in a few and have generally had good experiences. We stopped there for one night, whilst we visiting Blackpool to go to The Sandcastle and The Pleasure Beach. Booking I am sure it is common knowledge but booking ahead is going to save you money. I booked this hotel back in January when they had one of their promotions going. I paid the grand sum of £9 for this family room, which could have slept four. They often have promotions of this kind; more commonly it is rooms that can be booked for £19. The website is easy to navigate, with only the most basic information on there. However during these special promotions the website may be slow and occasionally shows availability, only to find there is none when you click through ...

Blackpool Pleasure Beach

Advantages: Great rides, cheaper than some other parks
Disadvantages: Lacks the charm other parks have

I visited Blackpool Pleasure Beach last year and I thought it was great value for money. The weather in Blackpool wasnt always great during my 4 day stay but this park didnt disappoint where ride were concerned or eating out. The general atmosphere of this park is happy and fun which is great for the family however the atmosphere here is nothing compared to theme parks like Disneyland or Universal Studios, but you get what you pay for with this park in the sense of good rides and entertainment. To pay in to the park you need to buy wristbands, I think that if you want to get the best out of the park the Ultimate Daily Wristband is the best deal, however if you dont really want to do many rides or are not fit to for various physical reasons the Pleasure Beach Pass will probably be enough for you and then when in the park you can ...
