If you don't know Blackpool that well and are heading for a night out you are likely to need some help!! There are so many dodgy pubs and clubs about, places that seem to attract trouble and then there are the nicer bars - although they are few and far between!!! I would advise you to steer clear of places such as 'The Down Town Bar', 'The Victoria' and 'The Station' they tend to be the places where drunken men pick fights and try to start trouble. They aren't nicely decorated, your feet will stick to the carpet when you go in - is this a ploy to keep you in there you might ask?? The better bars you should be heading for are 'Gillespies' and 'O'Neills' - they are nicely kitted out with wooden floors and old style decor. These pubs attract the younger (20 ish upwards)more tasteful crowd who are out for a good time - not trouble. Unfortunately, these are the only 2 pubs I would reccommend to people - whilst in comparison the list of places to avoid is endless. I mentioned only 3 dubious places earlier, but you could easily add....'Flashmans', 'Rumours' (meatmarket for old blokes), 'Brannigans' (another meatmarket), 'Tower Lounge'....need I go on? In all honesty, if you are after a night out with a bit of style go to somewhere like Manchester or Leeds - on the other hand if you want a cheap and tacky night out pick Blackpool!!
I had the misfortune of visiting the Tower Lounge on my Stag Night. Sweat was dripping from the ceiling, shoes stuck to the carpet, and someone had dumped in the middle of the toilet floor! To make matters worse I was dressed as a lady, complete with frock and pink plastic boobs. I nearly got raped by three strange men! I will not be going back... Cheers, Claw.
