This opinion is aimed at anyone who is planning to go to Blackpool, or perhaps to someone who has been before and didnt enjoy it. One thing I have noticed about people from out of town who come for a weekend, night or a full holiday to Blackpool, is that they all seem to go to the same places. These places I intend to show in their true shoddy glory, and perhaps give you some usefull hints on where to go, next time you come to Blackpool.
The main culprit which always attracts holiday makers is the "Tower lounge", in my opinion this place is a scummy, smelly and downright seedy place, where you will be far pushed to see a local enjoying a drink. As a local and frequenter of many of Blackpools establishments, this has got to be right at the bottom of my list of places to be, or to be seen in. Once entering the "Tower lounge", you will notice the size of the place, it is very large. Allthough you may be forgiven to
think that it is a good laugh and there are plenty of fun people in here, I might point out that in a recent poll it was voted the second most dangerous pub in England. I am not here just to slag of the "Tower lounge", but I think it is my duty to warn people who do not know better that there are many places to go, with out the risk of getting glassed. Last time I went in there (only briefly), I was welcomed with the site of a rather large lady, "entertaining", a young lad under the table, she seemed oblivios to the many onlookers watching. Any way, in the same vein as the "tower lounge" I will also mention the other unsavoury culprits which I know are favourites with tourists, they are to name but a few: The Manchester, The Foxhall, The Star, South Shore Yates and Linekars. I am sure that many people have been in these places, and had a great time, but my aim today is to point out that there is many more places in Blackpool that are worth a look.
The Pubs and clubs to have a good night:
The Waterfront: Since opening a few years a go, this place has become almost a haven for all the locals and holiday makers alike. It is a three section nightclub which consists of a small club for the slightly older crowd, playing music like culture club, and wham. A large ground floor club, which mainly plays pop music and chart hits, often with guest entertainers and cheese jocks. And my favorite , the top Dancefloor which plays the more heavier dance music, such as trance, hard house and progressive. All floors have decent lighting and sound systems, but can get very busy, and you will find yourself queing for a while for a drink. There is hardly ever any trouble, but if there is the well trained door staff are always quick to sort it out. Admission costs vary throughout the season, but in peak season you could expect to pay as much as £8.00 to get in, or free in low season if you have a ticket, which you can get off the girls who give them out on the street nearby. The clientell is mainly young. Sometimes too young!
Heaven and Hell: Very similar to Waterfront, again, this is a multi section club, which consists of one room for the disco divas out there, playing any old chart stuff through to seventys. Competitions are done most nights.(my mate won a weekend in Paris for two one week!). The other room is for hard dance and is always very busy. I would guess the average age is about sixteen, but I am sure the club would tell you otherwise.
I could go on for ever comparing different clubs and pubs to each other, but it would take me for ever and you would never read the end of my opinion. I will try and update this opinion, on a regular basis, but until then I hope this suggested pub crawl will be of some help if you are having a night out in blackpool soon. 1. The no3, excellent place to start, very trendy, just out of town. 2. Gillespies, Short taxi or long walk from No3, always busy! 3. The Washington, up the road from Gillespies. 4. Oneals, obligatory Irish bar always busy, always good. 5. The Tapas bar, very small pub. Excellent atmosphere. 6. Cahoots, one of the main places to be seen before hitting a club. 7. N.T.K. quite new place, on two levels. Has T.V. in front of the urinals! 8. Waterfront. See above!
I hope this has been of some use, as I have said I will try and update this on a regular basis, but in the mean time, if you are thinking of coming to Blackpool feel free to ask me any questions.
good opinion. i have never had the chance to go to Blackpool yet but it sounds good.

Dear Friend, Thank you for writing this very helpful essay - I found it most interesting and informative! You did not mention the stray dogs, or perhaps you did not find this a problem? Yours truly, your friend, Grace.
