Me, my partner and baby visited Blackpool in May, along with a group of friends and their family. We chose Blackpool because of its status of a "family" location, however, were quite shocked by the state of the town now. As with any town, there was roadworks and renovations, However Blackpool seemed to be very dirty, urine soaked doorways, shut up shops, chewing gum encrusted pathways (and buildings!). You couldn't see the sea because of the amount of cranes and scaffolding, however this is all for the good of the town.
We spent some time in the tower which cost us £12 to get in on a group discount. booking, Without the booking it can cost in excess of £30 so very glad didn't have to pay all this! The food which was very expensiv, jacket potatoes, sandwiches or a precooked food. There is an aquarium there that took us around 5 minutes to get around. I however did enjoy going to the top of the tower, it was a good experience for me and this alone was the highlight of my day! The Tower was definitely not value for money.
There of course are other attractions, The Pleasure Beach, which is full of rides for people of all ages. Louis Tussard's Waxworks, which boasts many famous waxworks and its famous footballers gallery. And down the stairs is a house of horrors, with a chilling walk through. These attractions are the highlight of Blackpool, even though the Pleasure Beach is costly it does have rides like The Pepsi Max Big One, which has to be anyones highlight (I personally wouldn't go on it - heights, eek!) The amusements were fun, but starting to look like a bit run down and in need of a hoover!!.
At around 4pm bouncers appear on all bar/pubs/clubs doorways, which automatically sends out signals about what kind of place Blackpool becomes at night. There was already a lot of drunken people around and being very lairy. I didn't want to stick around, especially as my baby was with me so we headed back to the hotel.
If you are going solely for a night out with friends, stag do etc then i've no doubt you will have a good time. In my opinion its not really a place for children. When I was a child Blackpool was fantastic, we enjoyed the Pleasure Beach (which is still exactly the same now) and the illuminations are also a highlight. I'll stick to other seaside resorts for my own children!

Blackpool has long since lost its magic, at least in my opinion. Sure, it isn't all bad, but it has the reputation of stag and hen night city, which would freak me out completely. Like many coastal towns, they are tired, run down and look seedy, the sort of place that might be ok for an occasional visit, in the daytime, in season, but at night, I would not set foot outdoors.

Oh yes it can be a good day out, its just after around 4ish when I think it starts getting shifty! Thanks for all your comments.

I have re rated as you have put more info in. But it tends to be the back streets where the shops are boarded up. I still think Blackpool is a great family day out so I can't agree with your opinion but we are all entitled to one
