Grange Holborn Hotel

Advantages: Very good locationi
Disadvantages: NS

The hotel was offering some special offers last month so me and my boyfriend decided to stay there for the weekend when visiting London. It has an ideal location. We went down by train and it's only about 15 minutes walk from Euston station, or a few bus stops away. We arrived early so we left our luggage and was told to get back after 2. The lobby is not huge but nicely decorated. There is an Egyptian sculpture next to the lift, kind of like a replica of those you see in museum, quite special. Again I have to praise its location. It didnot take us long before we reached New Oxford street by foot. Bear in mind it was January when the sale was still going on-I could start my shopping straightaway. We got back after lunch and the room was ready. It's a double room with a king size bed. The room is quite spacious with a plasma TV ...

Hotel Bannatyne, Darlington,

Advantages: Very reasonable price, well located for town centre
Disadvantages: Only the odd little thing that didn't quite match the image they want to present

This is a 60 room hotel close to Darlington Town Centre and owned by Duncan Bannatyne - one of the Dragons from the "Dragon's Den" TV Show. It is based on a 1820's house with recent, tasteful extensions. On arrival my first impression was a bit of a thumbs down as car parking was congested but I managed after a couple of minutes. Things improved from there; you ring the front door bell in a gracious period entrance and a person comes and opens it (as opposed to a squawking voice saying "push the door"!). Reception is in a room off the hall and is a desk on the corner of a room with soft chairs and newspaper. The staff have clearly been given all the right sort of training to make the right noises and stay calm when services required are rattled off - ironing board, paper, internet connections (yes to all). I was slightly surprised to ...

Review of Hotel Bannatyne, Darlington

Grange St. Paul's is an amazing hotel!

Advantages: Amazing, all round
Disadvantages: None!

This hotel is undoubtedly the best I have ever stayed in. Here's why... We booked this hotel as a top secret hotel through lastminute.com, paying £86 for the room for the night of Saturday 26th Septmeber 2009. For anyone who isn't familiar with lastminute's top secret system you basically get a star rating and description, but not the name of the hotel before you book. However, for London hotels if you put the description into Google you can easily find out which one matches the description, so we knew what we were getting before we booked. We arrived by Tube from King's Cross station to St. Paul's Underground station. From here the hotel is fairly easy to find. Just follow the signs for the cathdral then look for Godliman Street on the other side of the cathedral and you can't miss it. The transport links to the hotel are good ...
