Picturesque summer sledging at Straže
Advantages: Tremendous fun, easy to get to, good value for money, get some great views if you remember to look Disadvantages: None at all
...something new to do. The summer toboggan is signposted from the road that circles the lake and is between Hotel Grand Toplice and the hamlet of Mlin. A two minute walk from the road brings you to the bottom of the slopes. This is where you buy your tickets – assuming you have started at the bottom (maybe you can by them at the top too, I must confess to not knowing). You take your ticket to the barrier, and go through the electronic turnstile. First ... ...grown up kids loved the summer toboggan and all the “real kids” we saw seemed to be loving it too. This is about as close to Alton Towers as it gets in Slovenia so maybe some kids would find it a bit tame; I would be disappointed if that was the case because this activity is great fun and you get to do it in such picturesque surroundings. The summer toboggan operates at the following times
22 March - 25 April - open Saturdays, Sundays and holidays ...

Vintgar - dramatic and beautiful, close to Bled
Advantages: Pretty, easy walking, not too long Disadvantages: Can get slightly crowded
...Triglav National Park in Slovenia, Vintgar Gorge was first made fully accessible at the end of the 19th century. Slovenia is the northernmost republic of what used to be Yugoslavia, sharing borders with Italy and Austria in the Alps, and Hungary to the east and Croatia to the South. Carved out of the rocks by the fast-flowing Radovna river, the gorge is 1600m long
WHAT IS THERE TO SEE =
This is an ideal destination if you do not want to ... ...= GETTING THERE =
Vintgar Gorge is no more than 3 miles out of Bled, tucked away down pretty side roads with their tidy Alpine cottages. Although there are signposts all the way along the route from Bled, some of the signs are not obvious, and you can end up doubting that you have come the right way. The final approach to the gorge is down a very steep narrow road with hairpin bends, but the volume of cars and walkers there leave no doubt ...

Bled-dy Fantastic
Advantages: beautiful, beautiful, beautiful.. Disadvantages: it might be a while till i make it back..
...in the middle of Lake Bled is tiny Bled island. And when I say tiny, i mean allow yourself around 5 minutes to walk the whole island!
Bled island is part of the reason the area around Lake Bled is so pretty and picturesque. Bled is a gorgeous location situated in the Julian Alps with a castle perched above the lake and the little island in the middle. To get to Bled Island you can grab a water taxi from the side of the lake (we got ours in front ... ...maximum depth of 30.6 m. Bled lake has no large natural tributaries and is fed only by a few springs. The island is in the western part of this lake. On the Island you will find the Church of St Mary, with a bell that you can ring by pulling the bell rope. The story goes that if you ring the bell you get your wish. I made my wish and i have to say it didnt come true, though Im not dead yet and I can now live in fear of "be careful what you wish for" ...

Enchanting castle in the perfect setting
Advantages: Fairy-tale castle with spectacular views Disadvantages: Can get busy during peak months
...any trip to Slovenia, Lake Bled is the most beautiful, and as a result more visited of the countries two alpine lakes. Easily reached by postal bus from Ljubljana (no. 7), a day trip to Lake Bled is well worth putting up with the awful local music the driver insists on playing during the 1hour 15minute journey.
From Bled, there are two ways up to the castle, by public transport, or for the more mobile a wonderful, but steep trek up to the top of ... ...the castle, and to Lake Bled as a whole is the fact that there were a lot of tourists about. The peace was shattered regularly by a Harley Davidson club while I was there, and the place was very busy during the summer. For those looking to get away from it all, the equally beautiful but less well known Lake Bohinj is only 45 minutes away. ...
