Let's start with a brief introduction... I have been to Blizzard Beach approx. 7 times. Most of the visits were with my parents between 1997 and 2000, however I recently visited twice in January 2007.
WHEN TO VISIT The "When To Visit" Orlando is a well strung out debate...I have visited in July / August as well as January. Most of it is down to personal preference. We last visited in Janaury (60 - 70 degrees each day) and most people said we'd be mad to try the water parks. Ignore anyone who says this. There is no "good / bad" time to visit Blizzard Beach...if in Walt Disney World, head down, if only for a few hours.
GENERAL INFO Blizzard Beach is one of Disney's two Orlando Water Parks (the other being Typhoon Lagoon). It is based on a winter wonderland in the sun. All the slides have plastic snow on them to make it look like it it is the middle of the winter. This is a park for all member of the family no matter what the age so is well worth the visit.
ATTRACTIONS The water park has a number of water attractions ranging from Summit Plummit (very very steep vertical slide) to a family raft ride for everyone. I'd love to tell you all about summit plummit - however I chickened out!! I did all the other slides though. There are many slides to keep you entertained for at least a full day. On our last visit though it was about 50degrees celcuis and was ridiculously cold. As a result there were only about 100 people in the park, so we got everything done in about 3-4 hours. I'm relucant to describe each of the slides individually...I feel that could spoil it for any potential visitors... However, I will give a special mention to the lazy river that circles around the perimeter of the park. When you're after some quiet time, grab a tube (readily available) and laze around the river at your own pace. It is lovely and relaxing. Watch out for the sunshine though - it is also a mecca for sunburn!!
FOOD / DRINKS We didn't eat a main meal in the park for I can't comment fully on this. The only food item we bought was a Pail of Icecream (approx. $8 / £4). This was an actual bucket and spade of icecream, cookies, waffles and brownies - and would easily feed a family of 4-5. Ok so there were only two of us...but we certainly couldn't finish it!
ENTRY $$$ A day ticket for Blizzard Beach is $39 +tax for an adult and $33 plus tax for a child (age 3-9). Under 3's are free of charge. However, we used a 14 day UK exclusive park hopper ticket (approx. £185) which gave us unlimited visits to all Disney parks / water parks and Disneyquest. This is a good option as we just popped into Blizzard beach for a couple of hours, without worrying that we'd waste a day's entry fee.
OVERALL Overall I think Blizzard Beach is a great day for the entire family if in the Orlando area. It is a must do for us on each visit to Florida...
