Advantages: The best steaks in Germany! Disadvantages: When will they come to the UK??
...many German restaurants including the Block House which is a little strange but something you do get used to!
I have eaten at many of the Block House restaurants on my many trips to Germany including several in Hamburg, Berlin, Dusseldorf and Cologne and have never, ever had a bad meal. The staff are always very polite and efficient and this really is a great value, typically German culinary experience!

Blockhouse is a chain of German steak houses with over 30 restaurants throughout Germany. Founded in Hamburg in the 1970s there are 12 restaurants in the city with the main city centre locations being close to the Hauptabanhof and the Gansemarktpassage.
The restaurants offer great value for money on great, home cooked food that is always exceptionally fresh, hot and well served. The turn over is very fast with friendly and efficient staff and it is a great place to eat relatively healthy good value food throughout Germany (it does help if you like steak though!). The restaurant is open from 11am until 12 midnight, serving the same menu throughout. But with appropriate items for the time of the day such as lunchtime specials including sandwiches etc.
The food is mainly Aberdeen Angus steak served with baked potato with sour cream as well as garlic bread and an inclusive salad to start. The range of steak is wide and includes all your favourites such as filet, ribeye, etc. There's also a good range of light fare, including salads, fish courses, and burgers. They also offer a good range of business lunches, and the best thing is that you just want to eat a baked potato with garlic bread or a small salad then you can do without the pressure of ordering a full meal. Lots of people do just order snack food that cost less than 5Euros for a soft drink, potato and salad.
The average price of a steak meal (filet) is around 18Euros (£12) which includes salad, garlic bread and jacket potato which is excellent value as you don't really need dessert! If you do, the restaurant offers a great range of local desserts such as the famed rote grutze (berries) and apple strudel. The range of drinks is also very good and reasonably priced, with local beers, German wines, as well as some more internationally renowned and well-known names.
My favourite meals: the fresh salmon (frischer lachs) and the filet steak (filet mignon) which are both always wonderful are always wonderful with the steal always being very tender and juicy and the salmon deliciously hot served over spinach with beautiful cheese potatoes (sounds a little strange I know but it I really is nice!).
The atmosphere is always lively in the Blockhouse and the setting is rustic German with comfortable tables that accommodate a wide ranging number of people from singles who can sit at the bar and talk to other diners as well as the bar man to larger group tables that will easily accommodate eight or nine people. The restaurant is busiest between 12noon and 2pm and from 6 until 9pm when people finish work and the shops close but the service is always fast and if you do have to queue for a table then a complimentary glass of orange juice or wine is usually served which keeps people smiling! You can book but it usually only takes a few minutes to be allocated a table even if they are very busy.
If you don't speak German don't worry as they have English menus as well as child friendly menus and activities to keep the kids happy! You don't see too many children eating out at night in Hamburg booty the restaurant is very child friendly with children's menus as well as games, toys and activities that are provided. Dogs are also welcome in many German restaurants including the Block House which is a little strange but something you do get used to!

Advantages: Great tasting food, friendly Disadvantages: expensive
I ate at the Block House in Harburg. This is just south of Hamburg near the Harburg Rathaus. I ordered a New York Cheese Burger and this drink they have here that is a mixture of Fanta and Coke. Both were quite tasty especially the burger. They have this special coarse pepper for steaks that was very good. The service was fast and friendly, and the bathrooms are clean. The burger was 8 Euro and the drink was 2 Euro. As a student that is a lot but ... ...in Germany. The waiters, chefs, and manager all appear to be German but the atmosphere is quite American. You can get by fairly well with English plus they have an English menu upon request.
I really enjoyed this restaurant. It was more expensive than just buying fast food but it was worth it. ...
