I''ve been to York a number of times as it is one of my favourite cities in the UK. The last time i went there,i stayed at the blossoms hotel which was in the Clifton Area of York about a ten minute stroll from the City Centre. I booked a double room for two nights which was £45 per room per night which seemed like a bargain as everything else at that time was well over £60 prpn.
The Hotel is approx : 15 minute walk from the train station 10 minute walk from York Minster 8 minute walk from the local tourist information centre 5 minute walk from the nearest newsagent
Checking was at 3pm but i called them up and they allowed us to check in earlier so this was a good start,as some places don't allow you to do this or even charge you £5 extra to do this which seems very unreasonable. Locating the place was easy as it is just a matter of walking up Bootham and it is on the main road, opposite a prestigious private school. The entrance was quite nice and the first thng that hits you is the central heating that was on full blast as you come into the building- it was a freezing day but after about 10 minutes,it really did seem to be quite uncomfortable and stuffy.
The reception area is rather basic but the members of staff are pleasant enough, they give you all the information you need like breakfast times and rooms numbers etc. There is also an area with loads of leaflets of the numerous tourist attractions in and around York which was handy-having said that the tourist infromation centre is on route to the City Centre from the hotel so this is also handy too.
The room we stayed in was a budget double room which was described as being smaller than a usual double room but it was a nice and cosy room with a nice view from outside the window. There was a shower which was quite clean,a wash basin, tea and coffee making facilities, small table and of course the double bed itself which was pretty comfy.
The room was rather basic but for this price, it seems reasonable. A good bonus is that you have access to the internet downstairs in the lounge area which is very handy and if you have a laptop with a wifi connection then you can connect directly to it.
The staff were nice and the breakfast was well cooked and well presented. You even get to toast your own slices of bread in their nifty toaster.
All in all i would definitely recommend this place as the location is good as it isn't too far from the City Centre and there are plenty of attractions and places to eat nearby. Prices are good and the staff are nice enough plus it is a very welcoming hotel with free Internet access too.
