Blue Bar
This bar is situated on the newly developed (with regards to night life) Albert Dock just outside the main Liverpool city centre. The Albert Dock is certainly the most trendy place currently to be seen on a night out in Liverpool. The Blue Bar is certainly the most trendy place in the Albert Dock, and is frequently visited by the rich and famous of Liverpool that live around the docks. Advantages: Centrally located in Soho Disadvantages: Poor service, cold food
It’s not often that I look forward to going out for a meal when I have had no say in the restaurant venue but this time it was different. The supper club that I belong to (a group of like-minded city-types) had selected the BluesBar & Bistro in Soho’s Dean Street as the place for our next meeting.
Having not heard of the venue before I set out to see what I could find out about it. Previous meetings having been at places such as The Ivy, Le Pont de la Tour and Nobu, it had a lot to live up to. Initial impressions were good.
Awarded an AA rosette for culinary excellence, reviews were uniformly good:
> 'Maybe it was the food or the amusing helpful waiter which put us in such a good mood.' – Evening Standard
> ‘All [dishes] hit the spot for a breezy, up-for-it night out, but don't overlook mellower ...
Advantages: Stylish, impressive and a great drinks list Disadvantages: Some of the guest
The BlueBar is a London institution that really is worthy of the acclaim it regularly receives.
Within the impressive Berkeley Hotel and situated in the best part of Knightsbridge, the location is convenient for after work drinks or even for a late evening post-theatre/dinner stop-off on the way home.
Designed by David Collins (the man behind the design of top bars and restaurants including The Wolseley), the style is akin to something one would imagine to be found on 1930s ocean-liner and the crocodile skin floor and stylish (yet somewhat uncomfortable) furniture do make for a special atmosphere.
The drinks list is expensive yet impressive with drinks starting at around £9 for a G&T and £6 for a beer but it is cocktails where this bar excels. All the usual classics are accompanied by some BlueBar specials.

The BlueBar and Grill is situated in the trendy Albert Dock complex. The restaurant itself is set above the BlueBar, which is one of Liverpool's trendiest pubs regularly frequented by stars from Brookside, Hollyoaks and Liverpool Football Club.
The décor is utilitarian and sports a magnificent vista of the Albert Dock through a glass facade. It is especially picturesque at night when the surrounding sandstone dock structures are illuminated. The overall ambience generated beautifully compliments the cuisine served. This is predominantly contemporary-modern English but there are other influences including Thai, Spanish, Moroccan and Italian.
Overall, the food is fantastic. The prices are reasonable, the service is impeccable and there is a good wine menu. Don't forget to leave yourself enough room for dessert because they are to ...
