I stayed at this hotel back in March for a 2 night stay. We booked through laterooms at the bargain price of £30 per night for 2 people in a double room - including breakfast!
The hotel is located about a 10 minute taxi ride from the train station, which is handy - and about a 5-10 minute walk to the main attractions and centre of York.
When we arrived we were greeted by a smart friendly lady who shown us up to our rooms. She asked us if we'd been to York before, if we had any questions etc then left us to inspect our room.
I was very pleased with what we got. We had a rather large room - much larger than a 4 star I've stayed at here in Derby! We had a colour TV sat on top of a chest of drawers.
Also on the chest of drawers was 'tea and coffee making facilities'. Now I'm sure you've all read this in hotel's brochures and 9 times out of 10 you get 2 sachets of sugar, 2 tea bags, 2 pots of milk and 2 cups - basically enough for one cup each. Well not here!
We got four cups (no washing needed), lots of different brands and flavours of tea- probably over 15 bags in total. Also lots of different types of coffee e.g. kenco smooth, nescafe gold blend etc, again around 10 sachets. Plenty of sugar sachets, little pots of milk and also 2 little packs of biscuits (4 biscuits per packet). I know it sounds stupid to get excited over tea and coffee, but it just felt nice to know that we had it there if we wanted it - without having to be rationing!
There was also a dressing table in the room with a chair and mirror which I used to get ready. On the table was a big leather bound book with all the usual fire procedures, telephone numbers for the area etc. In addition however, there was lots and lots of flyers and advertisements for lots of different things to do in and around York. This became very useful.
The bathroom was really clean and tidy; there were the little bars of soap as expected and also a couple of sachets of shower gel. The only thing I would mention is that it took a while for the water to get hot and I found it hard to keep it at a constant temperature.
At the side of the bed was an alarm clock, which we used, no problems there. When we went downstairs for breakfast we were pleasantly surprised. It was very modern decorated and all the tables were very nicely set.
We sat down, unsure of the procedure as it wasn't buffet style. A lady came over to ask what we wanted; my partner had a full English though I didn't feel like such a lot. I asked if it would be ok if I just had egg on toast with baked beans and this wasn't a problem - even though it weren't really an option on the menu.
She took our order and gestured towards a table in the middle of the room where she said we could help ourselves to any drinks. There were tea and coffee machines, fruit juice. Also on the table were any extras you could help yourself to such as marmalade, butter sachets etc.
The breakfast was really nice and came nicely presented, thumbs up to that.
When we'd finished breakfast we left by a different door which led us to the lounge area. This consisted of leather sofas and armchairs, a table in the middle with various magazines and newspapers and a flat lcd screen TV up on the wall. Very nicely decorated.
Anyone staying here, I would recommend staying at York's Wetherspoons pub. Unlike our's in Derby which is more somewhere that men go for a solitary pint, this was very modern and more like a trendy bar. The menu was still a good standard and very reasonable prices. We ate hear both days and found it a lovely bar to relax and have a drink.

That sounds good, especially the tea and coffee facilities.

Definitely somewhere I'll keep an eye out for the next time I've got to make a trip to York, which is something I do surprisingly frequently, actually! Markd
