The Boathouse

Advantages: Great Friendly Atmosphere. Great Food. Great Beer
Disadvantages: Difficult to find if the area is unknown

The Boathouse has got to be the greatest pub i have ever visited, which is why i visit again and again. Lets start off with the location. It is set in the quiet little town of Irlam, Manchester. Is is next to the River Irwell Old Course, (the Old River), which gives pleasant surroundings whatever the weather. Its really nice in the warm weather, sitting looking at the river and wildlife. The pub, outside and in, is a traditional looking pub, with the old looking dark wooden beams and white wall on the outside and cream on the inside. Pictures on the wall show the history of the historic town of Irlam and thing to do with the Manchester Ship Canal. The old furnature and memorabilia complete the interior of this delightful pub. You are met the helpful and friendly staff, who attempt to greet you with a welcoming smile and to serve ...

Boathouse at Beetle & Wedge was a meal to remember

Advantages: Cosy and pleasant locally sourced food cooked by the chef
Disadvantages: I wanted a puddings so will have to return

I enjoyed an excellent lunch at the Boathouse Restaurant in Moulsford. Lunchtime was busy but all the staff were efficient and pleasant. My starter of Crispy duck with a rice cake and mango sauce was delicious as was my main course of Pollock on a bed of spinach served with fresh vegetables and a cripsy potato rosti. I wish I had had room for one of the puddings. However I will go back and ensure I can make the third course. It was a georgeously sunny day overlooking the river with plenty of walkers passing by and the odd boat mooring up for a Beetle Bite lunch. The adjoining bar is available for BBQ and bar snacks. The variety of choice on the menu was interesting and would appeal to everyone. Something different and imaginative and steaks for the basic eater. Vegetarians were also very well catered for. The puddings were ...

Review of Beetle & Wedge Boathouse Restaurant

The Strand Palace Hotel

Advantages: Central location, clean
Disadvantages: Food, rooms

We stayed at this hotel in London a little over a month ago now for two nights, we chose this hotel mainly because of the central location and because it was only a ten minuite walk from the show we had booked to go too. Check in was very quick - About ten minuites and the staff at the reception seemed very friendly. My first thoughts on the hotel was that it looked really clean and that it was nicely decorated and it looked modern. I was a little dissapointed with our room as it was very small and basic, our room had a double bed, tea and coffee making facilities, a tv with satellite and a small, basic en suite bathroom with a shower. The views from our room very very poor - A block of offices which made our room dark as they were so close. The hotel has two bars and two resturaunts, the bars were again nicely decorated ...
