Advantages: Flamingoes, Spotting Leopards, Lions, Rhino Disadvantages: No elephants, small park
I used to live in Kenya, about 50km away from the town of Nakuru. A regular activity for myself and the family would be to visit Lake Nakuru NationalPark every Wednesday afternoon. Having lived in Kenya, I had the chance to visit so many different game parks, however Nakuru has always been a firm favourite of mine.
The park is set around Lake Nakuru, and so provides the perfect setting for any visitor to enjoy their game drive. The Park is very easy to drive around, so driving yourself is not a problem. The Lake is famous for its huge attraction of flamingoes (sometimes seen in their millions) throughout the year, which adds to the beauty of the landscape.
During your drive you are likely to see an extensive variety of animals and bird life. The park is home to 4 of the big 5 with the park being too small to hold elephant ...
Advantages: Beatiful scenery, unspoilt and outback Disadvantages: Very hot, very wet at certain times of the year, not easily accesible without transport
us a lot about how the Aboriginal people use the local plants. The silver leaved paperbark leaves can be boiled up and a poultice made for wounds, that liquid can also be drunk as a tea which is good for sore throats.
This gorge is in Nitmiluk NationalPark which means Land of the Cicadas in the local Aboriginal dialect.
EDITH FALLS:
We continued in this NationalPark to Edith Falls where the pools were so full that no swimming was allowed and the falls were actually quite short - not too far to fall to the waterhole at all. This is a very popular swimming hole for the people of Darwin but when the pools are this full swimming is not allowed because crocodiles are then able to travel in to the pools via the swollen river. Once the rainy season is over and the pools are once again cut off from incoming rivers, they are checked for crocs ...
South Lakes Wild Animal Park is about 10 minutes away from us, so we visit at least twice a year, and we are never bored.
The park is fairly unique in that many of the animals are free roaming, or are allowed to roam within their own areas in amongst the visitors. The free roaming animals are found in the Australasia section of the park, with lemurs, kangaroos, emus etc, Food can be purchased at 50p a bag to feed the emus and the ducks. The lemurs are the only animals in that section that cannot be fed or stroked by visitors.
Also in that section there is a large walk in aviary, with parrot and vultures, visitors can watch the vultures being fed daily.
Another great feature of the park is the high walk ways. These allow visitors to see the animals from above, and in the case of the tigers on their climbing frame, the visitors ...
