When In Rome... Visit the Colosseum.

Advantages: An unusual and dramatic experience..
Disadvantages: If you have to queue in the sun.

Visiting the Colosseum in Rome is an experience you will not forget. I did not know what to expect when I went there.Everyone has seen photographs of the outside of the Colosseum and the inside as it once was has been reconstructed in many film sets. What did I really expect to see; I do not know but I suppose that I thought I would be disappointed at how little of it was intact or looked authentic. this was not the case though. From the outside the Colosseum Rome is a strange building, when you try to take photographs of it you seem to notice how some pieces of its structure look at odd angles to other parts of it. There are usually long queues of tourists waiting to get into the Colosseum. Outside there are 'Romans' dressed up as ancient Romans and they are there to make money from tourists who pay them to have their photograph ...

Ciao Bella! - The Best of Rome

Advantages: A lifetime of sights to see, excellent transport, amazing ice cream
Disadvantages: Very busy

. They were brought to Rome to form the stairway to the Pope's private chapel in AD326, and are now on the side of the road for everyone to revere. And some disappointments: Circus Maximus: the great venue of I, Claudius now looks like a playing field in Peckham, and there is nothing really here, apart from the rough shape that would give away it's past. The only reason to come here is just to say you've been. Trastevere: the guide books told me this was Rome's "most authentic" district, with a mixed-heritage Bohemian culture. It is nice enough, but a little rough around the edges and nothing to write home about. I was a bit disappointed that I wasted my last morning in Rome here. Handy tips for sight seeing in Rome: Carry your EC passport as this gets you substantial discounts at the main sights, including the Coloseum. If ...

Review of Rome (Italy)

Apartment smelled of drains

Advantages: Nice pool, pleasanr helpful staff, appartment very clean
Disadvantages: Bathroom stunk of drains, kitchen antiquated, no kettle, toaster or hairdryer

in the car and go and explore for a while. SUNSHINE MAKES EVERYTHING LOOK GOOD: We made our way up to the pool area and were pleasantly surprised by a couple of big pools, lots of sun loungers and umbrellas, a couple of quiet bars and a restaurant. It all looked quiet, sunny and inviting. We sat down and enjoyed an iced tea and toasted sandwiches. We had been up since 2am and I had only had a cup of coffee and water so I was quite hungry by now. The waiter was lovely and the food was fine. We were getting quite positive vibes and when we went back to reception they said our apartment was ready we were almost on a high. MAYBE I SPOKE TOO SOON: We drove around to near our apartment and went up to the top floor, no lift but we are quite fit so that is not a great problem. We struggled with the old key in the lock and eventually got in. It ...
