When on holiday although we look forward to our Hotel Breakfast, we look forward to having our evening meals out in Local restaurants.
The BOM JESUS SNACK BAR, do not be fooled by the title SNACK BAR.
It is located next to the Chuch of the Same Name BOM JESUS, so is very easy to find, just head for Church.
It is open everyday, except Christmas day, so no worries there.
It has about 10 outdoor tables, with about seating for 36 inside.
Starters on the menu about 6 items, again small does not worry us as it means fresh and cooked on the premises, also some may consider a trifle slow, again a sign of real cooking.
Starters# Vegtable Soup (Vegitarians be wary it did have some meat in it) Grilled Limpets (Similar to Cockels, grilled in their shells with plenty of Garlic involved) Octopus Salad, nice pieces with plentiful fresh salad. Shrimp Cocktail.
Mains. Scabbard Fish Filets with bananas fried in Butter( It does work). Cod flaked and fried with egg. Golden Scabbabrd Fish. Groupper Steak (A soft texture looks like a swordfish steak but not as meaty) Very large Tuna Steak cooked just right, with onions and light chilli,
Meats Steak with Egg Steak with Cream and Mushroom Sauce Pork Chops Chicken. etc
Deserts Very TEMPTING and big portions. Tart au tatin Creme Caramel Egg Custard gateau
Drinks, Very good House Wine 7 euros a bottle Local Beer just over a Euro a glass (33 ml)
Service was very friendly by pleasant ladies. Bill for 4 was about 60 Euros. (Inc 1 bottle wine, Large Bottle of Water and 6 beers)
Inside they did have 2 TV Screens which can be distracting. But if the weather is OK sit outside which is very pleasant.
Yes do give this place a try, after all Hotels try to please everyone with their evening meals and end up pleasing very few. Cost of the Hotel Buffet evening meal 22 Euros a head not including drinks, I leave you to say which is the better alround deal.
We did meet a couple of gentlemen, who asked us where we could recommend in this CULINARY BACKWATER.
My advice to them was Eat Portuguese with fresh in season local products and I am sure you will have a Culinary Experience, (FOOD SNOBS I can not stand them).
