Didn't live up to the hype.
Review of Taj Mahal Hotel, Bombay by koshkha

Advantages: At least you can say you've stayed at one of the world's most famous hotels
Disadvantages: The rooms were nothing special.

...dragged me along to the Taj for afternoon tea as a 'must do' experience. We sat and looked at the India gate and the sea and it was like being in a time warp to old England. To tell the truth it was less a matter of opulence and great service and more a reminder of Lymington-on-Sea yacht club. However, it was instilled in me that this was the most famous hotel in India. So when I discovered that I'd be staying there on a business trip about 18 months ...
...Mumbai restaurant). The Taj is in a good location if you want to be in downtown Mumbai - will save you 90 minutes in a taxi compared to being out by the airport. However, many people might find it distressing or uncomfortable to leave the hotel on foot due to the large number of beggars and hawkers who are drawn to the area around the hotel. If you've been to India a lot you may be used to that but for first time visitors it can be upsetting. In ... Read review

Nice bathroom, sorry about the basin...
Review of Hyatt Regency Hotel Mumbai by Vodkaboy

Advantages: Nicely designed rooms and bath rooms, stylish, comfortable
Disadvantages: Careless Housekeeping

...saw a chap holding a Hyatt sign in the arrivals area. He had a list of people booked in that day, my name was on the list, so he was ready to take me to the hotel. I was ready not to argue. I was disappointed that I had to leave the gorgeous airline rep behind, though. As the taxi pulled into the hotel, though, he handed me a slip of paper to sign. Oh. I checked to make sure it didn't say anything like "I promise to give you a Ferrari" or "IOU A ...
...if blank, so I signed it, making a mental note to keep an extra eye on my firstborn, not having either of the other two. LOBBY AND RECEPTION My first impression arriving was that the lobby was dark; had they forgotten to turn the lights on? Had they run out of five rupee coins for the meter? Then I realised that it was deliberate! The lobby was grey marble walls, with some large, round, grey columns, interspersed with lots of layered glass walls ... Read review

GREAT HOTEL
Review of Ramada Palm Grove, Bombay by plug86

Advantages: Close to beach and great rooms
Disadvantages: none

This hotel is simply superb and is good value for money. I have stayed there a number of times since 2004 and the place oozes charm. There is a lovely bar there with very cozy arm chairs and attentive staff .Drinks and cocktails are well presented in very nice glassware and very generous serves especially the spirits which my husband appreciated and were also nice and cold which is quite often not the case in India .Crisps and other little nibbles ...
...Service is spot on and the prices are competive. Our room was sea facing double on both occassions, and very reasonable priced for a 4 star hotel. The amenties in the room were of a high standard, nice curtains and lovely crisp linen on the bed The room was tastfully decorated with a comfortable large size double bed. The service and cleanliness was above standard and nothing seemed to much trouble. The restaurant had a good selection of food and ... Read review

Economical Indian Alternative
Review of Ambassador Hotel Mumbai - SRS Hotel by billsmith3420002001

Advantages: Good hospitalty, Very Cleanly
Disadvantages: Lack Variety Drastically

Hi, I was on business trip in Asia and the last place I would inhabit before getting back to the good old UK was Mumbai, now I had been through a hectic journey across China and Japan, and I wanted to make my last stay memorable at least significantly. I decided to try out this well reputed Indian 5 star recommended by a friend, now my previous experience in Mumbai was pretty good staying at hotels like The Taj, Oberois and Marriot (the best in India) ...
...wasn’t disappointed. After checking in I immediately stopped at a restaurant in the hotel called Society, continental cuisine, and was delighted with the food, the Spaghetti Flamboyè was just awesome and so was the garlic bread and the wine. I really had low expectations because compared to Oberoi (30 stories) and Taj (same) this was quite little structurally. I ate like a glutton and had spaghetti (awesome cheese), garlic bread, and a couple of ... Read review

Taj Mahal Palace & Towers
Review of Taj Mahal Hotel, Bombay by enigma_uk2

Advantages: Good location, beautiful building and cosy rooms
Disadvantages: Very expensive!

I stayed here recently and felt that it was the perfect end to a great but exhausting trip around India. I booked into the Tower but was upgraded to the Tiger Club in the Palace which was a nice treat. The Palace is stunning and you should just look up the staircase, even if you can't afford to stay there. The restaurants are heavenly, we went all out and ate at Zodiac Grill, it claims to be India's top restaurant and we concurred! The 'snake coffee' ...
...coffee tasted delicious. The rooms are cosy, remembering that this is a 100 year old building, the architecture and service make up for the room which I felt was on the smallish side. The bathroom is small with a shower-over-bath which I'm not very fond of, but the shower was excellent nonetheless. The swimming pool is a nice retreat from Mumbai's hectic streets. I'd recommend this hotel as a one-off experience to anyone, not ideally located for ... Read review
